‘Did I just hear a clashing sound? The leader of that Demon Spirit Group has a weapon? And this little girl blocked it with her pinky fingernail?’
The Ghost Girl thought she was hallucinating and stared blankly at the scene.
The tough man hadn’t expected such an unexpected outcome either. He took a deep breath and asked, “Are you a Mid-Level Reincarnator?”
Tsukiyomi Ruri shook her head. “No, I’m an Emperor-Level.”
“Are you playing with me?” The tough man grew furious upon hearing this. “Even if you are a Mid-Level Reincarnator, I’m not afraid of you. We’re all Mid-Level Reincarnators here, aren’t we?”
Although his attack had been blocked by Tsukiyomi Ruri, the tough man hadn’t exerted any real force or even used an ability. The power of that sword strike had naturally seemed rather weak.
More importantly, he wasn’t alone!
“Brothers, this girl seems to be looking down on us. Let’s teach her a good lesson,” the tough man shouted.
The rest of the Demon Spirit Group had no objections.
There were five members of the Demon Spirit Group present, each of them staring at Tsukiyomi Ruri with unfriendly grins.
‘Can this unnamed little girl win? She just blocked an attack with her fingernail… Actually, was that some kind of ability to strengthen her nails? But I didn’t see her pull out one of those cards they Reincarnators use.’
The Ghost Girl watched the scene unfold in confusion. Everything was turning out differently than she had imagined.
The tough man charged forward, brandishing his invisible sword as he lunged at Tsukiyomi Ruri once more. At the same time, he secretly activated an ability, imbuing his attack with a guiding effect that would home in precisely on Tsukiyomi Ruri, making it impossible to dodge.
But Tsukiyomi Ruri didn’t dodge.
She simply reached out, extending her index finger and thumb as if to pinch something ever so gently.
“How is this possible?” The tough man’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull.
He couldn’t thrust any further. The tip of his Invisible Sword was pinched between the little girl’s fingers. He could neither advance an inch nor pull it back.
Was she really a Mid-Level Reincarnator?
Could she be a Senior Reincarnator?
As the thought crossed his mind, cold sweat beaded on the tough man’s forehead.
The gap between Low-Level Reincarnator, Mid-Level Reincarnator, and Senior Reincarnator… each step forward brought a massive increase in power.
At that moment, the other members lunged forward, launching their own attacks at Tsukiyomi Ruri.
Updraft!
Tsukiyomi Ruri activated her sole Ability Card.
Immediately, powerful gusts of air erupted from the ground all around her, surging upward and slamming the four approaching members against the ceiling. The ceiling cracked and splintered under the force as the four men, screaming in agony, were pinned helplessly against it, unable to break free.
“AAAAHHH!”
The tough man glanced up in stunned silence, then swallowed hard as he looked back at Tsukiyomi Ruri.
Using an N-Grade card to beat us Mid-Level Reincarnators into this state?
She was definitely a Senior Reincarnator!
“Are you ready to answer my questions properly now?” Tsukiyomi Ruri asked the tough man.
The man’s survival instincts kicked in. He recalled the question Tsukiyomi Ruri had asked earlier and hurriedly replied, “We discovered this Two Realms Passage by accident. A member just happened to pass by and saw it. It was a coincidence. As for what world is on the other side… we’re still exploring it. We don’t know exactly which world it is, only that there are quite a few ghosts over there.”
Tsukiyomi Ruri nodded and asked another question. “And what do you plan to do with the ghosts you capture?”
Upon hearing this, the Ghost Girl also snapped back to attention and fixed her gaze on the tough man, waiting for his answer.
The tough man lowered his head and replied, “We’re doing this to nurture the Commander’s Equipment Card, the Book of Ghosts. This equipment absorbs ghosts and can be strengthened by them.”
Absorb?
The Ghost Girl’s face turned pale. She understood now that the other ghosts she had known would never be seen again. Being absorbed was, for a ghost, the same as death.
“Commander? So you’re not the Commander of the Demon Spirit Group,” Tsukiyomi Ruri said, sizing up the tough man.
The tough man gave a dry laugh. “I’m just an ordinary member.”
“Who is your Commander, and where are they?” Tsukiyomi Ruri asked.
“Our Commander is called Kiryoki. She had some matters to attend to in Reality, so she left. I don’t know exactly what she went to do,” the tough man answered.
“So, you know nothing useful, then.” Tsukiyomi Ruri was not impressed.
As she spoke, she deactivated the Updraft. With the airflow gone, the four members pinned to the ceiling plummeted to the ground, landing in a heap, motionless.
The tough man glanced at them, his face contorting in horror. “D… Dead?”
“Of course, they’re dead,” Tsukiyomi Ruri said expressionlessly. “I never spare the lives of those who try to kill me.”
The tough man’s pupils constricted. “So I’m doomed no matter what, is that it? Well then…”
A ruthless look crossed his face as he reached into his pocket.
Then…
“BOOM!”
The room exploded. The terrifying blast force caused the passageway itself to collapse inward, burying the area completely under rubble.
Amongst the debris, the Ghost Girl was dumbfounded. As a ghost, she was naturally immune to physical attacks of this nature.
‘D… Dead? That little girl was blown up?’
The Ghost Girl could hardly believe it. Such a death would be truly unjust.
Just as she was starting to feel a pang of sorrow, gusts of air surged up from within the collapsed passage, blasting the loose stones aside and suspending them in the air.
Tsukiyomi Ruri stood in the exact same spot, calmly dusting off her clothes—though perhaps “calmly” wasn’t the right word, since her face was naturally expressionless.
“You’re okay?” the Ghost Girl cried out in surprise.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Tsukiyomi Ruri countered.
The explosion had clearly been caused by explosives planted underground. These were probably things the Demon Spirit Group had procured in Reality, items not belonging to a Reincarnator’s inherent abilities, much like the two handguns they’d had at the start.
Hearing Tsukiyomi Ruri’s words, the Ghost Girl was at a loss for how to respond. Then she noticed Tsukiyomi Ruri begin searching the bodies of the dead Demon Spirit Group Reincarnators.
“That can’t be…”
After searching for a while, Tsukiyomi Ruri was surprised.
She couldn’t find a single Ability Card or Equipment Card. This was different from looting the bodies outside before. She had witnessed the tough man and the others using Equipment Cards and Ability Cards, yet now, after their deaths, she could find no trace of them. What did this mean?
