Her voice was sweet like sugar, yet somehow never cloying.
Tsukiyomi Ruri looked up towards the owner of that voice.
Izumi Shirayuki was true to her name. Her long, silver hair cascaded down like snow, and her skin was as translucent and white as snow itself. She was sitting in a chair, her purple eyes sparkling like stars.
Club activities?
Ruri searched her memory for a moment. The Urban Legend Club was undoubtedly a club dedicated to investigating urban legends. However, they had never found a good urban legend to investigate. But since Shirayuki-senpai said there was a club activity they could do, did that mean she had found a suitable urban legend?
Ruri found it all terribly dull. She felt it was just childish make-believe. She was a dignified Reincarnator; she would absolutely not participate.
Mizuhashi Yuzuki’s eyes widened with delight as she asked, “Shirayuki-senpai, is there an urban legend?”
For Ruri and Yuzuki, Shirayuki, as a third-year student, was indeed their senpai.
Shirayuki smiled brightly. “It’s less an urban legend and more of a campus legend. This matter took place right here, at our school.”
Yuzuki’s eyes grew even wider. “What happened?”
Shirayuki spoke with an air of mystery. “I heard that recently, every night at our school, desks and chairs have been seen floating in the air. That’s quite a supernatural occurrence, isn’t it? That is what we are going to investigate.”
Ruri could not hold back any longer. “That sort of thing is definitely a lie. How could desks and chairs just float on their own?”
She was the only Reincarnator left in this world. If she wasn’t doing it, who else could be? So it was definitely fake.
Shirayuki turned to Ruri. “But, Tsukiyomi-san, apparently some people passing by our school at night have witnessed this happening.”
Ruri remained unimpressed. It had to be a hoax.
Yuzuki tilted her head in thought. “If we want to investigate this, won’t we have to come here at night?”
Shirayuki nodded. “That’s right. Tonight, Mizuhashi-san and Tsukiyomi-san, you’ll both come with me to investigate the school.”
Ruri immediately shook her head.
Yuzuki, however, was full of energy. “An adventure at school at night? That sounds really interesting! I’m in, I’m in! Ruri-san will definitely come too.”
Ruri shot Yuzuki a sideways glance. “I will not come. Don’t make decisions for other people, Mizuhashi-san. And this matter is certainly fake. Coming here will yield nothing. Give it up.”
Shirayuki came over and took Ruri’s hand. “Tsukiyomi-san, please come along too.”
Feeling the softness of Shirayuki-senpai’s little hand, Ruri’s tone softened slightly. “You’ll be coming here for nothing.”
“But I just want to come and investigate.” Shirayuki’s purple eyes fixed on Ruri, a light seeming to shine within them. “I am truly curious about this.”
Tsukiyomi Ruri: “…”
“Why do the desks and chairs float? I am very curious.” Shirayuki repeated her curiosity.
“Fine, I agree.” Ruri relented.
It was because as Shirayuki spoke of her curiosity, her face drew closer and closer. If Ruri didn’t agree soon, that smooth, fair cheek would practically be pressed against her own.
“Yay, wonderful!” Shirayuki hopped with joy.
Ruri just felt bored. It seemed she really did need to find a time to drop out of school and then do something truly meaningful. But what exactly counted as a meaningful thing?
Ruri pondered this deeply as she ate her bento.
She didn’t pay much attention in afternoon classes either, still thinking about things she could do. There was much she could do, but it was hard to weigh the specific options.
After school, Ruri refused Yuzuki’s request to go play at the park and went straight home.
Her place was actually not far from Aragaki Girls’ High School. Returning to her empty home, she entered her bedroom, which was covered in pink wallpaper and had a bed stuffed with plush dolls. Ruri lay down directly and slept. Having just recovered the memories of her past life, she felt a bit fatigued.
By the time Ruri woke up again, it was already dark. She turned on the light and got up, simply ate a supermarket bento, and left the house.
She hadn’t even changed out of her uniform, though as the night breeze blew, it felt a bit breezy underneath…
By this time, Shirayuki-senpai and Yuzuki had already arrived. The two of them hadn’t changed into casual clothes either and were still wearing their school uniforms.
“Ruri-san.” Yuzuki, who had sharp eyes, waved her hand as soon as she spotted Ruri.
Ruri walked over.
Shirayuki smiled and said, “Since everyone’s here, let’s not waste any time. Let’s go!”
Of course, the school was closed at night.
However, Shirayuki had come prepared for this. A truck was parked nearby. She opened the back compartment and took out several stools of varying heights, allowing someone to step on them and climb over the wall into the school.
There seemed to be someone sitting and resting in the driver’s seat of the truck. Shirayuki-senpai explained that was the person helping to drive.
It was clear that Shirayuki-senpai seemed to be an Ojou-sama.
Before climbing into the school, Shirayuki also tossed a few chairs inside first to ensure they could get back out later. Furthermore, ropes were tied to the chairs so they could pull them all out again when they left.
The school was now pitch black. The various teaching buildings stood in eerie silence. Not far away, the wind whistled across the sports field.
“The school is very big. Where should we go?” Yuzuki asked in a low voice.
Shirayuki answered without hesitation. “Passersby can see the desks and chairs floating from outside, right? So, from a passerby’s perspective, only certain classrooms would be the target. We can find a spot with a view of those targets to investigate. Let’s pick that corner over there to stake out.”
It was a corridor on the fifth floor, right next to windows with a decent view.
Neither Yuzuki nor Ruri had any objections to this choice, and they quickly made their way there.
Standing at the corner of the corridor, Shirayuki-senpai and Yuzuki looked outside curiously, while Ruri leaned against the wall with utter boredom.
‘If I hadn’t agreed to Shirayuki-senpai in the clubroom this morning, I wouldn’t be here. Let’s just get this over with and go home early. But I don’t really feel sleepy… so maybe play some games?’
Ruri pondered what to do after she got back.
Just then, Shirayuki gasped. “It’s really happening! There’s a genuine supernatural event! Desks and chairs are floating!”
Hearing Shirayuki-senpai’s voice, Ruri very skeptically raised her head.
She looked out the window and saw that in a second-floor classroom, things were floating there. Although the lights weren’t on, their position gave them a clear view. Things were indeed floating there. Looking closer, one could see it was desks and chairs floating.
The sight made Ruri’s eyes widen in disbelief. It felt incredible.
