After their bath, Amelia and Eileen went to sleep together.
The bedroom was cleaned spotlessly. Wallpaper patterned with pink and blue balloons was pasted up. The wardrobe was filled with their clothes. The desk and bedside table held some miscellaneous items, and the newly purchased pinkish-white bedding was spread across the bed.
Lying on the bed, Amelia turned her head to look out the window. She could see the purple moon and the river-like stars.
So many days since arriving in this world, she was finally able to settle down.
With this thought, Amelia nudged sideways, leaning into Eileen’s embrace, and fell asleep just like that.
Holding Amelia’s petite body, Eileen’s feelings were equally complex.
The kingdom’s fall, the castle collapsing… those scenes still seemed to be right before her eyes. Back then, she truly thought both she and Amelia would meet their end in this life. But luckily, no matter the danger they encountered, they always managed to survive against all odds and finally fled to another country.
“Your Majesty, I will protect you.”
“We… will surely restore the kingdom.”
Eileen spoke softly.
—
Heavenly Calendar Year 720, September 24th.
In the morning, Amelia was having her meal.
Although Eileen was clueless about many maid-related matters, the food she prepared tasted quite good.
While eating, Amelia was also reading the Luban Morning Post.
In every country, there existed many types of newspapers. Here in Bild City, besides the Luban Morning Post, there were also the Luban Evening Post, the Red Maple Evening Post, the Ladies’ Daily, the Starlight Noon News, and similar publications. However, the most famous and best-selling was still the Luban Morning Post, because it covered not only domestic news but also a lot of international information.
For instance, this morning’s paper reprinted a wanted order from the neighboring Bargas Kingdom.
‘Wanted: Two silver-haired girls from Iris? It’s related to the Mana Crystal Cannon incident. They even know the silver-haired girls are named Lucy Coffey and Winnie Coffey? They found out from the owner of that restaurant, Sunlight Whisper? But, wanted for Lucy Coffey… what does that have to do with me, Lily Hicks?’
Amelia glanced at it indifferently.
Although she didn’t care about this wanted order, seeing the report describe how she had used the Mana Crystal Cannon to kill tens of thousands of people left her quite speechless.
The actual number of people she killed was several hundred. Before arriving in Bild City, she had seen a newspaper claiming she killed several thousand, which was already a massive exaggeration. She never imagined the story would spread and become even more absurd.
If this kept circulating, would they eventually say she killed several hundred thousand?
After mentally complaining, Amelia flipped through the other reports.
Some novelist came out with a new work. Some theatre was going to perform a popular play. In the Sycamore District, two bards got into a fight due to creative differences…
Overall, there was plenty of serious news, but entertainment pieces were more numerous, with the occasional news story that was both amusing and baffling.
Ding-dong!
Just as Amelia was reading the newspaper, the doorbell rang from outside.
Amelia raised her eyes, but before she could make a move, Eileen, dressed in a black-and-white maid outfit, was already heading to the door.
Before long, Eileen returned with Victor.
“Good morning, Mr. Victor. It is a pleasure to see you,” Amelia said, rising and performing a graceful curtsy.
“The young Lily is as beautiful as ever today,” Victor said with a smile.
“May I ask what brings you here, Mr. Victor?”
“I’ve come to bid farewell.”
Victor’s opening words surprised Amelia.
“Farewell?”
Amelia looked at the bullet comments. They had appeared by now, but they didn’t offer any useful information. Clearly, the audience didn’t know whether Victor was supposed to leave at this time either.
Regarding the Hicks Family, they only knew the family had been poisoned and murdered by bandits. Any fortuitous encounters during this period were unknown to them.
Victor said with a smile, “As a Count, it is necessary for me to share some of Grand Duke Ogden’s worries. Therefore, being dispatched for work outside is a frequent occurrence. I will likely be away for one or two months. During this time, if you need any help with anything, you can go find Beryl. I have already instructed her to look after you.”
“Thank you, Mr. Victor. If there is any need, I will seek out Madam Beryl,” Amelia nodded.
“I will be departing shortly. If you have any troubles right now, you can tell me first. Before I leave, I can see if I can help you resolve any issues,” Victor said gently.
“In that case…” A thought stirred in Amelia’s heart, and she said, “Actually, on the way to Bild City, we encountered an adventure party even more despicable than bandits. They plundered much of my wealth, killed many of my guards, and I almost died at their hands. Regarding this adventure party, I don’t know if I should continue seeking revenge against them.”
“Revenge is beyond question,” Victor said seriously. “An adventure party is supposed to be a legitimate adventuring organization under the Adventurer’s Guild, but committing acts even worse than bandits is absolutely intolerable. They should be sent to court for judgment. Tell me, which adventure party is it?”
“It’s the Black Crow Adventure Group,” Amelia answered.
Eileen, who was standing to the side, was startled upon hearing this and subconsciously glanced at Amelia.
“Black Crow Adventure Group? I can’t say I’ve heard of it,” Victor pondered.
Amelia didn’t necessarily expect Victor to coincidentally know about the Black Crow Adventure Group. After all, in the original plot, Eileen searched for the Black Crow Adventure Group for who knows how many years without finding them. This adventure party had likely ceased to exist in the form of an adventure party long ago.
But regardless, since they were Eileen’s enemies, Amelia couldn’t turn a blind eye. Having Victor pay attention to this… what if there was an unexpected surprise?
“In any case, I will look into this matter somewhat. But wanting to quickly find members of the Black Crow Adventure Group likely won’t be that easy,” Victor replied helplessly.
“That is already more than enough. Mr. Victor, I will keep your help firmly in my heart,” Amelia thanked him.
“We are all members of the Hicks Family. No need for such formal words. Well then, if there is nothing else, I shall take my leave,” Victor said with a smile.
“Goodbye, Mr. Victor. I wish you a pleasant journey.”
“Farewell.”
And so, Victor left.
Once Victor was gone, Eileen quietly said from the side, “Miss Lily, you didn’t need to mention the Black Crow Adventure Group. What if it leads to unexpected trouble?”
“What are you saying, Eileen?” Amelia turned around and said seriously, “You must understand one thing: news about the Black Crow Adventure Group is more important than this identity of Lily Hicks. If obtaining information on the Black Crow Adventure Group meant discarding this identity, what would it matter?”
Eileen: “…”
She hadn’t expected Amelia to say such a thing. The identity of Lily Hicks could clearly allow them to live a stable and peaceful life from now on. Was such an identity still not worth more than a clue related to her own revenge?
Did these words mean that she was incredibly important in Amelia’s heart?
