Chapter 65: Every God is a Free Meal

Wang Yue pushed open the door to Room 204, and the light of righteousness flooded in!

Lilith was lying beside Prima, teasing the girl’s earlobe and blowing on the fine hairs near her ear, clearly enjoying herself. Suddenly, the door swung open to reveal a crowd of people standing in the hallway. Startled by the audience, Lilith nearly tumbled off the bunk.

Wang Yue walked straight in, scooped Prima up in her arms, and said bluntly, “You’re switching rooms. What are your things? Let’s take them all now.”

Lilith propped herself up on the bed, her eyes wide. Her pupils were dilated to their limits, making her look broken and unstable.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

Her voice sounded like a freezing wind blowing out of the depths of hell, cold enough to turn blood to ice.

“She’s switching rooms. Did I stutter?”

Wang Yue glanced at her and was momentarily taken aback. Lilith’s small face was twisted, and her eyes looked like two blood-red abysses.

Is she really reacting this strongly?

This was somewhat unexpected. However, no matter how terrifying Lilith acted, Prima had to be protected. Wang Yue had no desire to waste words on her; fundamentally, their values were simply incompatible. When paths diverge, words are a waste of breath.

Under Mrs. Diaz’s supervision, Prima successfully moved rooms. Lilith’s attitude was irrelevant; there was nothing she could do to stop it.

Room 202.

“Welcome our new roommate!” Wang Yue led the applause.

Dorothy and the others crowded around the disabled girl, offering warm greetings and asking after her well-being. Dina started the oven to bake bread, filling the air with a delicious aroma.

All of Prima’s belongings were brought over—stationery, clothes, bedding, and the like. Her clothes had all been cut short, looking a bit like outfits made for a cat.

The six-person dorm had now become a seven-person room. Since there was one person too many, Wang Yue set up an extra bed on the balcony. She would sleep there from now on, which would also prevent Dorothy from constantly crawling into her bed in the middle of the night. Waking up with a person pressed against her chest was far too suffocating.

Prima felt an atmosphere here that was night and day compared to Room 204. Everyone was kind, and the mood never felt stifling. In her previous room, Lilith often lost her temper, screamed, and threw things, keeping everyone on edge.

Predictably, the sound of objects being violently smashed echoed from the room next door.

Once Prima was settled, Wang Yue returned to her research on the Secret Window Society, attempting to dig more information out of the cultist’s notes. Wang Yue was the type of person who needed to get to the bottom of things; if she didn’t understand something, it bothered her incessantly.

They spoke of the “Invisible God,” but how could one prove a god existed if they couldn’t be seen? And if they were seen, how could one prove they were a god? It was a paradox.

Soon, the analysis of the cultist’s notes reached 100%.

After filtering out the emotional ramblings and insane babbling, she extracted the core points. These included several oracles from Biheze, the main prayer, a partial list of Secret Window Society members, and the three supernatural powers repeatedly mentioned: the Gaplight Eye, the X-ray Eye, and the Heart’s Eye.

The “Gaplight Eye” was the ability to pry into secrets, granting a remote field of vision similar to a security camera. The notes didn’t specify exactly how to use it.

The “X-ray Eye” referred to the Finger Eyes. Supposedly, one could only receive this “blessing” by completely “opening” themselves and showing their absolute devotion to the great Biheze.

Among the core believers of the Secret Window Society, it seemed only the Priest had managed to open one eye. It was located on his right index finger, and he called it the “God-given Finger.” He kept it wrapped in a holy shroud and rarely used it, treasuring it immensely. A slit had begun to form on his middle finger as well, though it had yet to open.

Finally, there was the “Heart’s Eye,” a secret technique for peeking into the thoughts of others. However, this only existed within the oracles; no one had actually mastered it yet.

Wang Yue, on the other hand, could open ten Finger Eyes if she wanted to. The “divine grace” she received was overwhelming. If she were so inclined, she could even turn herself into someone like Danzo from Naruto, covered in eyes. But there was no need; one set of X-ray vision was enough.

It was only now that she truly understood the terrifying nature of “The Faithless.” Theoretically, she could masquerade as a fanatic of any deity and siphon power from them.

In professional terms, this was called “leeching.”

Wang Yue let her mind wander. Could she summon an Outer God? For instance, Azathoth, the Blind Idiot God at the center of chaos?

It sounded nice in theory, but there was a problem: Outer Gods didn’t care for human faith. There was no symbiotic relationship between them and humanity. Furthermore, Outer Gods only had summoning chants, not prayers.

Leeching off Azathoth wasn’t realistic. She could only summon him, and the consequences of such a summoning were fraught with uncertainty. It wouldn’t necessarily be profitable, so it was best not to try.

Well… for now, there aren’t any other gods to leech from. Perhaps she could scout for some potential targets through Ed-Bear.

She remembered there was another “god” in the library, but White Fish was so pitiful and lacked even a single believer. It was better not to toy with her feelings.

Wang Yue spread out a map of the Evernight Realm. She located Fishmouth Town to the northwest of Balor Academy and pinpointed Ed-Bear’s location. Fishmouth Town was over three hundred kilometers away, located within the same “Crimson” zone designated as G24. If one knew the route, a round trip on a lizard mount would take about a day and a half. A one-way trip would take from noon until evening.

She wasn’t worried about her avatar getting lost. There were many settlements in the Crimson zone, as well as functional camps similar to the Quicksand Lowlands.

After finishing her organization, Wang Yue closed the notebook and locked it in her drawer. She then leaned back in her armchair, reflecting on her avatar’s journey.

The thing she found most eerie and terrifying wasn’t the Secret Window Society, but that music box.

Biheze was a form of naturally occurring malice—or perhaps it couldn’t even be called malice. If she thought about it, the power to pry into secrets was just a tool. Just because believers used it for evil didn’t mean the power itself was evil. For example, if X-ray vision were used for search and rescue during a disaster, Biheze would be considered a great god of virtue.

But the music box was different. The very purpose of creating that melody was to harm others; it was the manifestation of pure spite.

It was like a blacksmith forging a blade. If they poured kindness into the work, the result would be a scalpel. If they poured in malice, the result would be a dagger—serrated, blood-grooved, and poisoned. A melody created for such a purpose could only harm people, its poison spreading indefinitely.

In the dorm, Dorothy had volunteered to take care of Prima. She told Mapeel, “Don’t worry, little sister Mapeel. I’ll take good care of her. I’ll make sure she’s well-fed, comfortable, and happy every single day.”

Hearing this, Wang Yue huffed. This scatterbrained girl couldn’t even look after a sheep properly, let alone a person.

The day came to an end. After the girls finished washing up, they climbed into bed. Wang Yue lay on her single bed on the balcony, her face buried in her pillow.

In the middle of the night, she woke up in a daze. She opened her eyes slightly and looked to her side. When she didn’t see her maid’s silly face there, she suddenly felt a bit out of sorts.

An inexplicable urge made her sit up and look into the bedroom. On the communal bunk, the pink-haired girl was tangled up with her blanket as if she were wrestling with it.

Seeing this, Wang Yue smiled to herself and lay back down.

At the same time, in the dormitory next door, Lilith opened her blood-red eyes. She looked at the empty spot beside her where Prima used to be. She ground her teeth, restless and agitated, looking like someone whose most precious possession had been stolen.

The wind brushed against the curtains, a silent movement in the dark.
