In Wen Su’s imagination, she might die in the laboratory, or perhaps at the hands of an Ability User, but never like this.
Pushed off the truck by Shen Ke, falling into a pile of zombies and dying.
Shen Ke stood on the light truck, looking at Wen Su’s incredulous expression with a malicious smile: “Help me with one last thing.”
Sunlight shone on Shen Ke’s face, her delicate brows and eyes, upturned red lips, utterly unrestrained, like a beautiful cat.
She was clearly doing something evil, yet there was no guilt on her face.
Rolling to the ground, her cheeks and arms scraped raw, Wen Su stared fixedly at Shen Ke on the truck, her heart pounding violently for the first time in a long while.
So beautiful, Shen Ke. She thought she would remember this scene forever.
A living person falling to the ground, the horde of zombies behind her pouncing toward Wen Su.
But in the next second upon contact with Wen Su, all the zombies froze in place.
Shen Ke didn’t know this; she only saw the large group of zombies that had been following the truck suddenly lunge toward Wen Su, whom she had just thrown off.
She assumed Wen Su had been bitten to death.
But she had no sympathy.
Shen Ke turned away, not looking that way anymore, and shouted: “Hey! Speed up now! Otherwise, the zombies will catch up soon.”
Today, Crimson Base had unleashed a massive zombie tide, and there were even quite a few Ability Zombies.
Crimson Base was just a small base, utterly unable to withstand such a large-scale zombie tide.
Without a doubt, the base’s defensive walls had been breached.
Everyone, including Ability Users, fell into panic. Due to the Ability Zombies, many Ability Users had died, ordinary people had no chance of survival, and Crimson Base had completely fallen.
Shen Ke had brought Wen Su and Wen Zhao along, and they were rescued onto the truck by a few people, but the zombies following behind couldn’t be shaken off.
The truck’s tires had even gotten stuck with bones and flesh from crushing so many zombies, slowing its speed. At this rate, they would inevitably be overtaken.
Shen Ke steeled her heart and pushed Wen Su off the truck. After all, bringing along an ordinary person like Wen Su was just a burden; better to use her now to buy them some time to break through.
These past few days had been better because she was with Shen Yao, but she hadn’t expected this to happen.
She didn’t know where Shen Yao had gone.
Looking at the zombies left behind the truck, Shen Ke slumped down, large beads of sweat sliding down her cheeks. Good thing Wen Su had been somewhat useful.
There were others on the truck besides Shen Ke: two ordinary people and two Ability Users, with an ordinary person driving.
The Ability User glared angrily: “How could you throw your own wife into a zombie horde!”
The remaining two ordinary people trembled, huddled in the corner.
Shen Ke frowned, her tone displeased: “What are you yelling about? Sacrificing one powerless ordinary person so the rest of us can live—isn’t that a perfectly good decision?”
“Otherwise, when that horde catches up, could a trash Ability User like you handle it? You know a single scratch means you’re done for.”
The Ability User turned red with anger at Shen Ke’s words. “You—!” He couldn’t refute; though he was a Fire Ability User, his power was very weak and couldn’t burn zombies.
If a pile of zombies swarmed them, they were as good as dead.
Shen Ke curved her lips, her brows slightly raised, letting out a light hum, arrogant and acerbic: “Don’t question my decisions with that stupid brain of yours.”
With that, she turned her face to look at Wen Zhao, who was hugging her knees and staring dazedly at her from the side.
Shen Ke clicked her tongue: “Little Brat, don’t blame me. This is for us to survive.”
Wen Zhao slowly buried her head in her knees, a smile appearing on her unseen little face. Ke Mama was even badder than she had imagined—seriously, it only made her want to pin Ke Mama to the bed even more.
In Shen Ke’s view, Wen Zhao was completely frightened by her, her small body curled into a ball. But Shen Ke wasn’t the type to coax anyone, and she hadn’t kept Wen Zhao around out of mother-daughter affection; she just thought bringing a child might encounter some kind-hearted people.
Like this Ability User in front of her—still having spare kindness in the apocalypse. And thanks to that kindness, she had survived.
The light truck carrying Shen Ke had already driven far away.
Wen Su stood up from the ground, looking in the direction the vehicle had long vanished, and chuckled lowly. “How utterly wicked.”
She recalled Shen Ke’s gaze at that moment—looking down from on high like she was trash.
Wen Su’s smile grew wider, almost twisted with pleasure. “So beautiful.” Her body heated up; this was due to her heart beating too fast, stimulating blood circulation and causing fever.
Her desire was stronger than ever. Wen Zhao lightly clapped her hands, and the zombies frozen stiff around her exploded with a “bang” into blooms of blood.
The foul-smelling blood mixed with chunks of black flesh splattered everywhere. From afar, it looked like a black rain had fallen, dyeing the soil near Wen Su black.
Wen Su’s face flushed red, her expression one of pleasure. Her eyes curved, pale lips parting slightly. “You got careless.”
She found her thoughts from a few days ago laughable—what no desire for Shen Ke, what liking men. Her desire for Shen Ke was overwhelmingly intense.
Look at that beautiful face, that infuriating expression, that malicious smile—she wanted nothing more than to strip Shen Ke bare, bully her hard in front of a mirror.
Make her so ashamed and furious she could die, pinch the base of her tail, bite her ear, fingers relentlessly spreading and clenching, making Shen Ke watch herself in the mirror—how she was being tormented.
“Don’t let me catch you, bad cat.”
The vehicle entered a winding mountain road. The hot weather kept Shen Ke from cooling down; not only was the temperature high, but even the blowing wind was hot and carried a foul bloody stench.
“Hey, where are you all headed?” Shen Ke asked the Ability User.
The Ability User’s tone was flat: “Dawn Base in C City.”
Shen Ke wiped her sweat: “Dawn Base?” She knew of this base; it was said to house top Ability Users, with an environment no different from pre-apocalypse thanks to many powerful ones.
But similarly, due to the vast disparity in strength, Dawn Base was notoriously chaotic.
Shen Ke’s eyes darted around: “You’re lucky. If it were just you lot heading to Dawn Base, you’d only end up as lowly ones, but with an Ability User like me, it’s different.”
The others on the truck scoffed at Shen Ke’s words, lowering their heads to sort their weapons.
Shen Ke snorted coldly, muttering: “You’ll regret it.”
At that moment, the driver up front spoke: “Bad news, the truck’s almost out of gas. We need to head to a gas station.”
The words instantly tensed everyone up. Traveling without a vehicle in the apocalypse was extremely dangerous.
“There should be a gas station near the intersection. How long can we hold out?”
The driver replied, “About ten minutes.”
Ten minutes—who knew if they could get out of this mountain road.
But worse happened.
The road ahead was blocked by fallen rocks and dirt; the vehicle couldn’t pass and they had to go on foot.
Shen Ke stood on the ground, cursing: “What rotten luck. Shouldn’t have stuck with you idiots.”
“If we don’t get out, we’re dead by nightfall.”
Wen Zhao tugged at Shen Ke’s pants, lifting her small face timidly: “Ke Mama, can you hug me?”
Shen Ke slapped Wen Zhao’s hand away: “Go away, don’t bother me.”
Someone couldn’t stand it and pulled Wen Zhao behind them protectively: “How can you be like this! Isn’t this your daughter? How can you treat her that way!” The seven-year-old girl had been quiet and well-behaved on the truck for so long without crying or fussing.
This woman was rotten to the core. The kid just wanted a hug, and she treated her like that.
Shen Ke sneered, arms crossed: “If you can’t stand it, you keep her. I don’t want to stick with you wastes anymore.”
With that, Shen Ke suddenly underwent Beast Transformation into a cat the size of a tiger, roared at the stunned group, and leaped straight off the cliff.
Annoying. No truck, no more use from these people—staying together would only drag her down. Wen Zhao too; a seven-year-old kid with no abilities was pure baggage in this situation.
The abandoned Wen Zhao slowly lowered her head.
The others exchanged glances. They had picked up Shen Ke and the others out of some kindness, plus at the time Shen Ke’s paw had been furry, smashing a zombie’s head with one slap—clearly an Ability User.
They thought she’d be helpful, but hadn’t expected such a vile personality.
Pushing her wife into a zombie horde, then abandoning her seven-year-old daughter.
Someone sighed: “Sigh, even in the apocalypse, that’s too inhumane.” He and his sister were the only two Ability Users, but weak ones; the other three were ordinary, now plus this kid.
Their chances of getting out alive were minuscule.
Wen Zhao looked down at her small body and slowly smiled, her pupils turning into gleaming golden slits.
She walked to the cliff’s edge, gazing in the direction Shen Ke had vanished. Her body stretched taller, ultimately becoming an eighteen-year-old girl, black scales covering her body like form-fitting black soft armor.
The people behind her were stunned by Wen Zhao’s transformation.
“You—”
Wen Zhao turned with a sweet smile, her pale face beaming innocently, icy slit pupils sweeping over them one by one: “I’m an Ability User too.” She looked utterly pure.
“You saved me and Ke Mama; I’ll help you reach Dawn Base. Then just do me a small favor.” Her pale lips parted, revealing a slender forked tongue, evoking an absurd horror.
No one dared speak, only nodding slowly. No one even dared ask why she had started as a child.
Meeting those gleaming golden pupils sent chills from the depths of their hearts—that suffocating feeling, they didn’t want to experience again.
Wen Zhao flicked out her tongue, sensing Shen Ke’s lingering scent in the air. After a moment, she sighed: “Ke Mama is so bad, but her ruthless side is cute too.”
Wen Zhao recalled the conversation with Mama a few days ago, when Mama said she’d throw away Ke Mama. But unexpectedly, now both had been thrown away.
“Ke Mama, you better not get found by Mama too quickly. I can’t beat Mama.”
