Thanks to the cat’s agility, Shen Ke used the cliff leap to quickly leave the mountain road and reach the main road.
She could head to Dawn Base alone.
But abilities couldn’t be used recklessly; now solo, she needed to conserve strength.
If only Shen Yao were here—but the communicator was broken. She didn’t know if Shen Yao was alive. Someone so obedient and strong—she wondered if she’d find another.
She didn’t want to fight zombies alone every time.
Running so long had tired her out. Shen Ke shrank her form to ordinary cat size, leaping onto a big tree in two or three bounds.
So much had happened today; she’d rest first.
Zombies couldn’t climb this big tree, and in small cat form, they wouldn’t notice her.
With that thought, the snow-white little cat slowly let out a purr as she dozed off.
She slept for an unknown time before being woken by a commotion.
When she woke, night had fully fallen; even with her fur, she felt cold.
The noisy voices grew closer: “Hey, Qu Xi, let’s rest here tonight.” They ultimately stopped under the tree where Shen Ke was.
“Yeah, this spot’s fine. I sensed no zombies nearby.”
Qu Xi scanned the surroundings, confirmed safety, and nodded: “Mm, take out the stuff.” She and her companions had come from Dawn Base. Crimson Base in B City had a massive zombie tide.
More importantly, Ability Zombies had appeared. She had led a few B-rank Ability Users here first. By the time they arrived at Crimson Base, it was already ruins.
The zombie tide was fiercer than imagined.
After clearing the remaining zombies, Qu Xi and the others headed back, but night had fallen.
The wilderness at night was fraught with danger; even as A- and B-rank Ability Users, they couldn’t guarantee survival outdoors.
The best option was to stay and rest.
The news had been sent back to base during the day; follow-up support had turned back and wouldn’t come to pick them up.
Qu Xi lowered her gaze, lit the campfire, then took out several strips of dried fish from her bag.
The moment she pulled out the fish, Qu Xi felt a intense gaze coming from above her head.
She looked up and met a pair of glowing green eyes.
At her level as an ability user, she could see in the dark, so she clearly saw the snow-white little cat perched on the branch overhead.
Qu Xi raised an eyebrow and held up the fish jerky. “Little kitty, want some?” Her striking features made even that simple eyebrow raise carry a seductive charm.
Shen Ke meowed and pounced straight down from the tree toward Qu Xi.
Someone shouted, “Qu Xi, be careful! It might be a mutated cat.”
Qu Xi smiled and reached out to catch the little white cat leaping toward her.
“With fur this clean, how could it be some mutated little cat?”
Shen Ke landed successfully in Qu Xi’s arms. Her tiny paws cradled the fish jerky as she gobbled it down.
“Mmmph, mmmph.” So tasty. She didn’t know if it was because of her beast transformation into a cat, but she had grown extremely fond of fish. She just hated water, and she didn’t have the points to trade for such precious meat anyway.
Qu Xi held the little cat and sat down by the campfire. “Look at her, guys. Isn’t she just adorable?”
Someone laughed. “She really is cute. That pose with the fish is pretty human-like.”
Shen Ke finished the fish in just a couple of bites, licked her paws, and spoke up. “Because I am human. I’m just a beast transformation ability user.”
Qu Xi’s body stiffened abruptly. “You mean to say that what I’m holding right now is actually a person?”
Shen Ke meowed again. In the next second, her body suddenly stretched and grew. Shen Ke straddled Qu Xi’s lap with her legs spread wide, hands pressing down on Qu Xi’s shoulders for a face-to-face stare. “See? I’m human.” Even after shifting back to human form, Shen Ke made sure to cover her private parts with her fluffy fur.
As her smooth skin touched the other woman, Shen Ke realized just how scorching hot she was.
Shen Ke shifted her butt a little. “Hey, you’re burning up. Are you a fire ability user?”
Qu Xi took a deep breath, trying to calm her churning emotions, but a rich, enticing fragrance filled her nostrils instead, making her heart skip a beat.
Not to mention the woman in front of her kept squirming on her lap, soft flesh constantly pressing against her thighs.
Teasing laughter came from behind Shen Ke. “Little cat, you should get down quick. Qu Xi doesn’t like contact with humans. If you don’t want to get beaten, now’s your chance. You can sit on my lap instead.”
Shen Ke turned her head, showing half her face to the people behind her. The firelight outlined the superior lines of her profile. She let out a cold snort, her beautiful cat-like eyes glancing sideways lazily, the upturned corners like little hooks that tugged at people’s hearts.
“No way. You’re not as pretty as her.”
Those people were struck flush-faced and heart-pounding by that casual, sidelong glance.
What was up with this beast transformation ability user who popped up out of nowhere? Was she some kind of illusion they were all hallucinating? She was like a seductive vixen.
Shen Ke turned back. Since she was sitting on Qu Xi’s lap, she loomed a bit taller. She parted her red lips, her eyes misty. “You’ll let me sit on your lap, right?”
The crowd seemed to foresee Shen Ke’s fate and shook their heads. The last person who ignored the warnings and got too close to Qu Xi had lost a hand.
Qu Xi was rigid all over. She met those beautiful cat eyes, pursed her lips, and lowered her gaze—only to be confronted with the deep cleavage right in front of her. The snow-white, plump soft flesh wasn’t fully covered.
Qu Xi slowly clenched her fists. She should do what she always did: teach this reckless fool a harsh lesson for touching her without permission.
Unknowingly, Qu Xi began to shake her legs.
Shen Ke let out a muffled moan from the motion and went limp, pressing even closer to Qu Xi. In a coquettish whine, she said, “Hey, what are you doing? Don’t you know I’m sitting here with my legs spread?” Leaning in by Qu Xi’s ear, Shen Ke whispered, “Stop shaking your leg. You’re rubbing against me.”
All Qu Xi could see was the pale, soft flesh squeezed into a rounded curve from their closeness, bulging and swollen as if it might burst right out of the white cat fur.
Then Shen Ke’s ambiguous whisper in her ear: rubbing… rubbing against her?
Qu Xi froze completely. Shen Ke wrinkled her nose. Why did she smell blood?
Her gaze fell on the woman with her head bowed in front of her. She reached out, cupped the woman’s face, and lifted her head.
Seeing the bright red bloodstains, Shen Ke clicked her tongue. “Hey, I didn’t bully you. Why are you having a nosebleed?”
Fair skin, rosy lips, exquisite brows and eyes—everything was right there up close.
Qu Xi’s mind exploded with a boom.
A seductive vixen, for sure.
The others had assumed this stunning newcomer would meet a quick end, but after waiting awhile, all they heard were her coquettish words.
Ah, Qu Xi was having a nosebleed.
Wait—Qu Xi was having a nosebleed?!
The air went silent for a moment, then laughter erupted. “Hahaha, nosebleed! That’s hilarious.” No malice in it.
But Qu Xi felt utterly humiliated. She never imagined a day would come when she’d get a nosebleed from looking at a woman’s chest—and not even a full one at that.
Qu Xi finally regained her senses. She pulled a tissue from her pocket, wiped the blood, closed her eyes, and tried to steady her voice. “Get off me.”
Shen Ke’s eyes spun slyly. In the next second, she pressed Qu Xi’s head down, burying her face in her chest.
“No way.” How could she let go of such a perfect portable heater?
Qu Xi felt her face sink into softness, cheeks squished, nostrils filled with a bewitching fragrance.
Thump thump thump! She could swear she heard her own heartbeat roaring.
She should push her away, but she felt powerless, like her hands and feet were pinned and she couldn’t move.
Finally, Shen Ke let go of Qu Xi. The position was getting tiring for her.
Shen Ke stood up from Qu Xi’s lap. Long legs, slim waist—her back view alone was stunning.
Sensing Shen Ke’s movement, Qu Xi suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Her words came out stammering. “Y-you… don’t you have any shame?!”
Shen Ke frowned and shook off Qu Xi’s hand. “Little Ghost, what are you talking about? How don’t I have any shame?” This woman looked about the same age as Shen Yao, which made her a little ghost in Shen Ke’s eyes.
Qu Xi pursed her lips and pulled a jacket from her bag. “Put this on.”
Shen Ke took it without hesitation. Once she slipped it on, she realized it had some kind of auto-heating function—it instantly became toasty warm.
Shen Ke sat down next to Qu Xi and tilted her head to size her up.
Qu Xi had a strikingly beautiful face, still a bit youthful but clearly destined to be gorgeous once matured.
Her neat short hair and form-fitting combat gear made her look sharp and spirited.
Shen Ke narrowed her eyes. “I want more fish jerky.”
Shen Ke showed zero awareness that she was an outsider.
Qu Xi stayed silent for a moment, then handed over all the remaining fish jerky. She abruptly stood up.
She went and sat in the middle of the others, leaving Shen Ke alone.
Shen Ke blinked, not understanding why Qu Xi had left, but she didn’t care.
Qu Xi cleared her throat, her expression turning serious as she questioned Shen Ke. “Who are you? Why are you here?”
Shen Ke said, “I’m Shen Ke. I was from Crimson Base originally, but it fell. I’m heading to Dawn Base.”
Qu Xi frowned and instinctively tried to dissuade her. “No, you can’t go to Dawn Base.”
Shen Ke pouted in displeasure. “Why not?”
Qu Xi pursed her lips. With Shen Ke’s looks and such weak strength, she’d probably end up as a plaything at Dawn Base.
There were six A-rank ability users at Dawn Base, and not all of them were the wholesome type.
Qu Xi’s companions exchanged glances and chimed in. “Miss Shen Ke, this is for your own good.”
“Dawn Base is a mess. With your looks, it’s dangerous.”
Shen Ke puffed her cheeks. “I’m not scared. I’m an ability user. I’m strong.”
Qu Xi’s frown deepened, her voice low. “You’re not even C-rank. At Dawn Base, you’d just get dragged to someone’s bed.”
