Morning sunlight sprinkled down, brushing right over Si Qing’s cheek.
Her cheek was pale and gaunt, with no color on her lips at all.
Si Qing slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she did was look to the side, but she didn’t see Shen Ke anywhere.
The pain in her shoulders and arms told her that going to bed with Shen Ke hadn’t been a dream.
Si Qing’s lips curved up slightly. She could keep staying by Shen Ke’s side. Just as Shen Ke had said, she was overthinking things too pessimistically. Shen Ke might never fall in love with her, even until the day she died.
Si Qing slowly got up and only then noticed the IV needle stuck in the back of her hand. She was on fluids.
Si Qing got out of bed, yanked out the needle, and headed for the door.
She was truly useless. She’d passed out after just one time.
It was normal for Shen Ke to leave, but it didn’t matter. From now on, she would keep staying by Shen Ke’s side.
Si Qing’s heart inexplicably leaped with joy. She opened the door.
But the servants standing outside the room left Si Qing puzzled.
The faint joy in her pale eyes vanished in an instant.
Her pale lips parted slightly. “What are you doing?”
The lead servant said, “Miss, your body hasn’t recovered yet. Madam has forbidden you from going out.”
“We’re here to take care of you.”
Si Qing’s cold face filled with gloom. “Get out of the way.”
No one responded. The servants guarding the door all lowered their heads.
They seemed especially resolute.
Si Qing clenched her fists. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
It felt like something had happened. Si Minglan had already sent people to guard her door, not even letting her go downstairs.
Si Qing’s lashes trembled lightly. Only then did she belatedly feel the hunger gnawing at her stomach.
Si Qing leaned against the doorframe, her expression cold. “Go prepare some food for me.”
“Yes.” One of them left, but the others stayed on guard.
Si Qing frowned. “Didn’t you hear me? I said all of you!”
No one responded.
Si Qing understood now. These people would only meet her basic needs but wouldn’t answer any other questions.
Had Si Minglan blocked her from seeing Shen Ke again? But she wouldn’t do that anymore.
Si Qing returned to her room, picked up her phone, and dialed Shen Ke. No one picked up. Then she called Si Minglan. The phone rang a few times before it was answered. Si Minglan’s tired, hoarse voice came through. “Little Qing, what’s wrong?”
Si Qing cut straight to the point. “Why did you send people to guard me?”
Si Minglan sighed. “Little Qing, I knew you’d go find Shen Ke as soon as you woke up. Your body isn’t well enough yet. I was afraid you’d leave right away, so I had someone watch you.”
“Once your body improves a bit, you can go find Shen Ke.”
“I’m not letting you leave these next few days. Little Qing, listen to me this once, okay?”
Si Minglan’s voice was gentle, and it didn’t sound strange at all, but Si Qing still felt something was off.
Si Qing sat back on the bed and looked at the blood flowing from the back of her hand. She’d been too rough yanking out the needle, so it was bleeding a lot.
Was it really as Si Minglan said? But why did she feel so uneasy, so agitated?
Si Qing hung up on Si Minglan and kept dialing Shen Ke’s number.
But no one answered, and the chat box showed nothing.
Si Qing swiped her finger. She didn’t know many people at school, but there was one more she could call. With that thought, Si Qing dialed the number.
The moment the call connected, a horrifying scream came through first.
Si Qing’s face showed no extra expression. Her unfocused gaze fixed on the doorframe as she asked hoarsely, “Leigh, where’s Shen Ke?”
Leigh stepped on Yang An’s broken hand and let out a twisted laugh. “Si Qing, I hadn’t even come looking for you yet, and here you are calling me.”
“Tell me, did you hide Shen Ke?”
Si Qing’s heart stuttered hard. “What… what are you talking about?”
Leigh gripped the phone tightly, her tone turning agitated. “Are you playing dumb with me?”
“Do you really think I won’t kill? Damn it! Tell me where you hid Shen Ke!!!”
The near-mad roar left Si Qing’s mind blank.
Shen Ke was missing—
“Leigh Clark, this joke isn’t funny.”
Leigh hung up and then smashed the phone on the ground.
“God, just tell me where my Baby is.”
“I’m going crazy.”
Blood smeared Leigh’s face. Expressionless, she kicked Yang An’s stomach again and again.
These past three days, she’d tracked down these people one by one who had bullied Shen Ke.
But none of them knew where Shen Ke had gone. From Si Qing’s tone on the call just now, Leigh knew that stupid bastard was clueless too.
Yang An’s mouth was full of blood. She curled up in pain, terror at its peak. “It… it wasn’t me. Please let me go.” Her hoarse voice begged pitifully.
Leigh’s lips curved up, blooming into a smile. It was no longer her bright, cheerful self but filled with sickly madness.
“Stupid bastard, of course I know it wasn’t you.”
The only ones who could hide someone so perfectly from her were people on par with her in status and background. She couldn’t think of any other civilian idiot who could pull it off.
Her power base was still in M Country. Z Country was someone else’s turf. She couldn’t go too far, or she’d really want to hold a gun to these people’s heads and threaten them. “If it had been you, you’d already be hanging off a ship on your way to hell right now.”
Leigh reached out, made a gun gesture, and pressed it to Yang An’s forehead. “I’d send you to hell with one shot after another. Bang.” She said the last sound effect very softly.
But Yang An felt as if Leigh had really fired, trembling uncontrollably in fear.
Yang An regretted it. If she hadn’t lost her mind and provoked Shen Ke back then, she wouldn’t be like this now. She could still be her rich second-gen in peace.
But her family had gone bankrupt. Her broken leg hadn’t healed yet, and now her hand was broken too.
She was practically crippled. Why had she ever messed with Shen Ke?
Under extreme physical and mental strain, Yang An lost it. She felt like she was going to die here today.
Yang An didn’t know what to say to make Leigh let her go and could only repeat “let me go” over and over.
Leigh clicked her tongue and kicked the girl aside. She swept her obstructing blonde hair back, her emerald eyes filled with violence. Leigh ordered the others, “Take her to the hospital. Don’t let her die.”
Even seeing others in fear and pain couldn’t calm her down anymore.
Leigh anxiously scratched at her arm, murmuring, “Baby, come out. Don’t hide from me.”
“I shouldn’t have gone to the swimming pool that day. I should have stayed by your side the whole time.”
Her pale, slender arm was soon scratched bloody by Leigh.
Deep, long gouges from her nails.
There was one more person she hadn’t checked: Qi Yuan.
Heh, she’d heard Qi Yuan had gone crazy.
As if there was such a good thing. Did she think going crazy would let her escape the reality of Shen Ke’s disappearance?
“The hickeys have faded.” Lu Yanbai took off Shen Ke’s long skirt and changed her into a short one.
Then she tidied up Shen Ke’s hair.
“Very pretty.”
Lu Yanbai’s eyes held a faint smile the whole time, her fox eyes utterly seductive.
Shen Ke was furious to death. It had already been three days. She’d been locked up for three days.
There were no chains on her ankles, but every time Lu Yanbai was about to leave, she’d force her to take sleeping pills.
When she woke up, she was always alone in here, and she couldn’t open that door from the inside.
Shen Ke had never dreamed that at the last moment, she’d be imprisoned. And by Lu Yanbai and Chi Wan, these two she’d barely paid attention to!!!
Shen Ke’s face flushed red. She shoved Lu Yanbai to the ground, straddled her, grabbed her collar, and roared fiercely, “Let me go right now!”
Lu Yanbai grabbed Shen Ke’s wrist, her smile unchanged. She even admired Shen Ke from this angle.
“You look pretty from this angle too, Shen Ke. Do you like this angle?”
“Do you want to take the initiative, or be taken?”
As she spoke, Lu Yanbai rubbed her chin against Shen Ke’s hand. “I’m fine either way, as long as it’s with you.”
Talking to Lu Yanbai always gave Shen Ke the feeling of punching cotton.
She glared in fury and swung her hand to slap that smiling face.
But right before the slap landed, Lu Yanbai caught it.
Shen Ke was utterly enraged. “Let go!”
Lu Yanbai chuckled lightly. “You can’t leave a handprint on my face, or Leigh will chase me down and bite.” With that, Lu Yanbai used only her waist and abs to sit up, bringing Shen Ke with her.
“Shen Ke, be good.”
Shen Ke’s eyes reddened with anger. She couldn’t hit her, couldn’t outtalk her. Shen Ke opened her mouth and bit down hard on Lu Yanbai’s neck.
She didn’t let go until she tasted blood, looking fierce and vicious. “Lu Yanbai! What the hell do you want!”
“I never bullied you!”
Lu Yanbai lifted Shen Ke’s face and stared at the blood on her lips. She leaned in slightly and licked the blood from the corner of Shen Ke’s mouth.
“I just don’t want you to leave.”
Shen Ke’s nose stung, tears welling up in her eyes. “I wasn’t leaving! What right do you have to lock me up!”
At that moment, the door opened.
Chi Wan walked in slowly, then closed the door. She said flatly, “The police left again. They probably won’t come back.”
Shen Ke’s eyes widened in shock, her body trembling.
Chi Wan approached, reached out, and took Shen Ke from Lu Yanbai’s arms, placing her on the bed.
“You don’t need to be afraid. We won’t hurt you.” Chi Wan’s words were cold but utterly sincere.
Shen Ke really couldn’t hold back her tears now. They fell in big drops. Of course she wasn’t afraid of Lu Yanbai and Chi Wan. What she feared was that her progress bar was just a tiny bit short.
If she couldn’t see Qi Yuan, she couldn’t complete her task. She didn’t want that!!!
Lu Yanbai stood up and came to the other side of the bed, taking out a tissue to wipe Shen Ke’s tears.
“You just need to stay here for a while. Later, we’ll take you to even bigger places.”
Chi Wan pulled a chocolate bar from her pocket, tore open the wrapper, and held it in front of Shen Ke. “Want some?”
Shen Ke smelled the sweet chocolate aroma. She clenched her fingers and bit off a big chunk, miserable. “I hate you guys!” Whenever she cried, they gave her snacks.
The chocolate puffed out her cheeks, paired with her red cheeks and nose tip. She looked utterly adorable.
Though she’d been imprisoned, everything Lu Yanbai and Chi Wan gave her was delicious.
The Si Family had money, but because of Si Qing’s health, they could only eat bland food and no random snacks, so Shen Ke hadn’t gotten to eat much.
Though Si Minglan gave her pocket money, she always spent it fast and rarely bought expensive snacks.
Chi Wan wasn’t talkative. After quietly feeding Shen Ke the whole chocolate, she pointed at Lu Yanbai’s neck. “Shen Ke, why did you bite her?”
Shen Ke had eaten something tasty, so her mood improved a little. She leaned against the headboard, tears still hanging from her eyes, but it didn’t dampen her arrogance at all. “None of your business! I bite because I feel like it!”
She’d only been imprisoned. Lu Yanbai and Chi Wan hadn’t hit her or bullied her. What Shen Ke was best at was climbing all over people who were nice to her.
She grabbed Lu Yanbai’s tie, yanked her close, rubbed her tears on Lu Yanbai’s clothes, then let go. Shen Ke pouted and said fiercely, “Not only do I bite her, I’m rubbing my snot and tears on her too!”
Chi Wan darkened her expression, undid her collar, and pointed to her neck. “You can bite me too.” Then she pointed to her clothes. “You can rub on me too.”
Lu Yanbai on the side narrowed her eyes. Chi Wan’s jealousy sure grew fast.
Shen Ke turned her head away. “No way. I like the scent on Lu Yanbai.”
Lu Yanbai’s eyes curved into crescents. Shen Ke was just like this—big temper, but easy to coax. When angry, she’d glare with red eyes and flushed face, sometimes puffing her cheeks. Very cute.
She was clearly locked up, but there was no fear on her face, only anger—and that anger came and went in waves.
It flared up fast and faded just as quick. Like now, one chocolate from Chi Wan had her soothed.
If she missed Shen Ke, where else could she find someone this cute?
