Chapter 61: Wine Bewitches the Heart Part 2

Zhang Qingshui sat unhurriedly on the bed’s edge, turning to look at Wang Ya, who lay writhing uncomfortably, hand pressed to her forehead. She chuckled lightly, “Feeling rough from the drunkenness, huh? Huang Qi went to make Sobering Soup for you.” She heard no response from Wang Ya, only saw her hand stroking her forehead with a pained low moan, then softly calling, “Ye Zi.” Zhang Qingshui assumed Wang Ya had passed out and was talking in her sleep, but suddenly red light erupted from Wang Ya’s body. Wang Ya sat up and swung her palm at her.

Zhang Qingshui jumped in shock and instinctively summoned the Azure Vine to counter, but Wang Ya’s body went limp, collapsing powerlessly back onto the bed with eyes tightly shut, motionless. Zhang Qingshui watched her warily, calling out several times before Wang Ya opened her eyes. Those half-lidded eyes brimmed with endless drunken haze, framed by her bewitchingly seductive face and parted red lips in an indescribably alluring sight. Fearing another sudden drunken attack, she used the Azure Vine to bind Wang Ya’s wrists, then leaned closer. Wang Ya had closed her eyes again. Zhang Qingshui lightly patted her face and called several times before Wang Ya opened her eyes once more, though her consciousness seemed unclear.

Wang Ya let out a soft “mm,” shook her head uncomfortably, and glared irritably at Zhang Qingshui with her hazy drunken eyes. She raised her bound wrists as if to strike again, but soon realized they were tied. She furrowed her brows and closed her eyes powerlessly. Wang Ya regretted drinking too much; the alcohol didn’t let her sleep peacefully but brought more influences to the forefront. Ye Zi, her grandma, her dad, Zhang Qingshui, Huang Qi, Old Tang—they all flashed through her mind. Among them, the greatest threat was Zhang Qingshui and the Zhang Family behind her. With Zhang Qingshui guarding her bedside, she couldn’t rest easy, fearing she might do something harmful while her mind was fuzzy.

Zhang Qingshui stared unblinkingly at Wang Ya with her eyes closed; the trembling eyelashes showed she wasn’t asleep. She watched for a long time with no movement from Wang Ya; her breathing gradually deepened, but her seductive face remained tightly furrowed, her sleep uneasy as she tossed and turned uncomfortably on the bed. Seeing Wang Ya asleep, Zhang Qingshui untied the Azure Vine from her wrists.

Huang Qi entered the room carrying the Sobering Soup.

Zhang Qingshui took it, propped Wang Ya up, roused her, and brought the soup to her lips.

Wang Ya half-opened her eyes and turned her head away, refusing to drink.

Zhang Qingshui said, “It’s Sobering Soup.”

Wang Ya didn’t trust Zhang Qingshui and naturally refused anything she offered.

Zhang Qingshui gave Wang Ya a sidelong glance, laid her back down, took a large mouthful of Sobering Soup into her own mouth, then pressed her lips to Wang Ya’s, feeding it mouth-to-mouth.

Huang Qi stood by the bed, stunned with her lips parted, frozen in place.

Wang Ya choked and coughed violently from the soup poured into her mouth; some went down her throat, some spilled out. The next moment, she lifted her head and struck at Zhang Qingshui leaning over her.

Zhang Qingshui caught Wang Ya’s incoming right palm, used the Azure Vine to bind her wrists, fed the remaining half-bowl of Sobering Soup into her mouth, forced her to finish the bowl, untied the vine from her wrists, and said to Huang Qi, “Little Qi, let’s go.”

Huang Qi stood dazed by the bed, still in shock. Did Qing Jie need to feed Wang Ya Sobering Soup mouth-to-mouth? She couldn’t see; to her, Wang Ya was just a humanoid red glow. She didn’t know Wang Ya’s reaction to the forced “kiss,” but the glow seemed to tremble uneasily on the bed. She asked, “Qing Jie, is this okay?”

Zhang Qingshui asked, “What? Force-feeding her Sobering Soup? She’s this drunk—if we don’t, do you think she’ll be up tomorrow morning?”

Huang Qi sighed softly. “Let me stay with her a bit.” Unable to see, her other senses were sharp; such a Wang Ya inevitably softened her heart, stirring pity.

Zhang Qingshui turned to Huang Qi, now seated on the bed’s edge. “Little Qi, go. I won’t feel right if you stay.”

Huang Qi asked, “Qing Jie, are you having trouble resisting Wang Ya’s temptation?”

Zhang Qingshui paused, sorted her emotions, and answered honestly, “I don’t know. She feels very alluring, and seeing her as a demon stirs this urge to conquer her.”

Huang Qi said, “Be careful not to disrupt your Dao Heart. I’m different from most, but she’s no demon. When close to her, I see a person, not a demon. Qing Jie, Wang Ya has helped us, never harmed us.”

Zhang Qingshui exclaimed, “Do you know what Wang Ya…” She stopped herself and said, “It’s not what you think. Let’s go. She’s asleep.”

Huang Qi sensed Zhang Qingshui’s resolve; neither would leave if she didn’t. Seeing the late hour, she stood and left the room with Zhang Qingshui.

After simple washing, they went to bed.

But Zhang Qingshui couldn’t sleep, her mind filled with Wang Ya’s drunken figure. She had to admit Wang Ya affected her, planting improper wicked thoughts. Lying until midnight, she saw Huang Qi asleep while she grew more awake. She got up to meditate and calm her mind but found it hard to achieve Entering Meditation. Abandoning that, she headed straight to the room of the one disturbing her heart.

One day, a girl born on the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month—the Ghost Festival—flipped open an ancient, faded scroll and suddenly discovered that it brimmed with vibrant colors.
