While waiting at a red light, she picked up her phone and sent a message to Xiong Yibai:
“Doctor Xiong, work hard! Don’t miss me too much~ Your exclusive driver will pick you up right on time after work! (づ ̄3 ̄)づ”
Xiong Yibai had just walked into the Trauma Department consultation room and set down her bag when her phone vibrated.
She took it out and saw it was a message from Feng Miwan, complete with a cute emoticon.
She couldn’t help but lower her head and chuckle softly, quickly replying: “Okay.”
Just as she sent the reply, there was a knock at the consultation room door. Ren Queyue poked her head in, immediately catching the smile that hadn’t fully faded from Xiong Yibai’s face.
Ren Queyue teased:
“Oh ho ho—look who this is? Our famous, ever-stern Doctor Xiong Da, with her mouth nearly splitting to her ears!
“Love changes everything, huh? You’re practically radiating that… um… sour stench of romance!”
Xiong Yibai quickly schooled her expression and shot her a glare. “What are you doing here? Is the Emergency Department that idle?”
Ren Queyue wasn’t fazed at all. She sauntered in, pulled up a chair, and sat down on her own, her grin even more irrepressible than Xiong Yibai’s had been:
“I’m here to check on you! After that huge fiasco yesterday, I was worried something might happen to you.”
Xiong Yibai’s gaze swept over Ren Queyue’s obviously lovestruck face:
“Spill it. Where were you last night?”
Ren Queyue’s eyes widened. “Damn! Xiong Yibai, are you a psychic or what? How’d you guess? I’m done for! Gotta take you out tonight!”
She made a throat-slitting gesture.
Xiong Yibai said nothing, simply picking up her water cup from the desk and taking a calm sip.
Ren Queyue grinned smugly. “Heh heh, truth is, I borrowed your script from last night and successfully crashed at ex-wife sis’s place! How’s that for awesome?”
Xiong Yibai glanced at her. “Plagiarism, and unauthorized at that. It’s illegal.”
Ren Queyue didn’t care, giggling to herself foolishly.
Xiong Yibai eyed her beaming expression. “Ren Queyue, are you lovesick or something?”
Ren Queyue shot back immediately: “…You wouldn’t get it! That feeling… tsk. And get this— this morning, ex-wife sis personally made me breakfast! You got that kind of treatment?”
Xiong Yibai: “…Oh.”
“Let me tell you…”
As Ren Queyue spoke, she recalled that morning scene:
She had just stepped out of the guest room when she ran into Zhao Shutong, dressed in professional attire and clearly on her way out.
Zhao Shutong didn’t even glance at her, just casually pointing at the dining table. “That bit of breakfast on the table is my leftovers. Eat it if you want; the dog won’t touch it. I’m heading out.”
With that, she clicked away in her high heels.
Back in the present, Ren Queyue continued:
“…But! When I got to the table, the presentation, the portions—it was clearly a carefully prepared serving for two! Leftovers that even a dog wouldn’t eat? Yeah right! She’s just tsundere! There’s definitely still a spot for me in her heart!”
Clearly, Ren Queyue had mastered a specialized “language filter and reverse interpretation system” tailored for Zhao Shutong.
Xiong Yibai watched her terminally infatuated state and fell silent for a few seconds before pointing at the ceiling:
“…This is the Trauma Department consultation room. We mainly handle physical injuries like fractures and lacerations.”
“Your condition… um… persistent giggling accompanied by logical cognitive distortion is a classic… clinical manifestation of lovesickness. I can’t treat that here.”
“Neurology or psychiatry, upstairs.”
“Go on! You need to see neurology yourself! Stop cursing me here!”
Ren Queyue fired back.
“But you, Doctor Xiong Da, where’s that workaholic persona of yours? One romance and poof, it’s gone. And you have the nerve to lecture me?”
Xiong Yibai replied calmly: “Wanting to relax has nothing to do with dating. Please don’t make irresponsible associations.”
“Fine, keep being stubborn!”
Ren Queyue didn’t buy her official line.
“Then I’ll take the afternoon off too! The hospital’s been pretty quiet lately; someone can cover.”
Xiong Yibai looked up at her and pointed at the ceiling again: “…I really suggest you go upstairs. Your condition might worsen by afternoon.”
Ren Queyue stood up and waved.
“Alright, alright, can’t win against you! I’m off, won’t disturb your consultations anymore! Bye!”
Xiong Yibai watched the door close behind her, shook her head, and finally couldn’t hold back a soft chuckle.
……………
In the Capital City, inside the top-floor office of a skyscraper, Song Weicheng sat at his desk reviewing documents.
There was a knock at the door.
“Come in,” he said without looking up.
His secretary entered. “Chairman Song, your son is here. He wants to see you.”
Song Weicheng finally lifted his eyes from the documents. “Let him in.”
The secretary nodded and withdrew.
Moments later, Song Zhe walked in.
“Dad.”
Song Weicheng gave a faint “Mm” and set down his gold pen, scrutinizing his son. “What is it?”
Song Zhe licked his lips, seemingly steeling himself. He took a step forward and met his father’s eyes squarely:
“Dad, about what happened in Longevity Town yesterday—the attack on Feng Miwan… was that you who sent people?”
Song Weicheng’s gaze turned icy in an instant. He spoke slowly: “What? You come rushing here first thing to interrogate your old man?”
Song Zhe quailed a bit under his father’s stare but pressed on:
“I’m not here to accuse you! I just don’t understand! Why would you do that? I’m still in first place on the points leaderboard!”
“Still you?”
Song Weicheng scoffed.
“Take a look at how much you’re leading the second place by? After the next station at Shangdu Station, can you guarantee you’ll still be at the top, Song Zhe?!”
Song Zhe clenched his fists:
“Even… even if I can’t guarantee a win next station, you can’t use… such despicable methods! That’s a crime!”
“Enough!”
Song Weicheng slammed the desk and shot to his feet:
“What methods did I use?! Which of your eyes saw me do it?! Song Zhe, let me tell you—this world only cares about results! No one gives a damn about the process!”
“You think I made you gun for the annual championship just for the team’s prize money?”
“I’ll tell you, our Song Corporation’s largest subsidiary, Zhesu Technology, is preparing to go public with an IPO next year!
“Your image, your achievements—they’re the hardest golden signboard for this company, the core basis for its valuation!
“The annual championship title isn’t just your honor; it’s key to giving market confidence and doubling the valuation!”
He stared at his son:
“This isn’t just a race. It ties into the entire group’s next strategic moves, the livelihoods of thousands of employees!”
