Chapter 78: Mustn’t Get Involved with Him

As evening approached, the banquet drew to a close.

The news of the impending dark era would surely cause a stir, and the various Sacred Lands and prominent families would need to return and discuss how to proceed.

However, they had experience with this and could follow established protocols, unlike the more chaotic responses of the past.

As the banquet neared its end, the little Kun Peng king, Bei Ming Ni, kept his gaze fixed on Mingyan, his anticipation for their battle palpable.

Even though the banquet was almost over, no one was willing to leave. Many wanted to see the strength of Yue Wu Xia’s new disciple. A disciple she had made an exception to accept must be extraordinary.

As the banquet officially ended, Bei Ming Ni stood up. “Let’s spar. Let me see if you have any real strength.”

Mingyan looked at Huang Junru at the head of the table. “Where can we use as a stage?”

Huang Junru’s voice was as cold as ever. “The plaza outside the hall will suffice. You can fight without holding back. Don’t worry about damaging the venue.”

Mingyan nodded and stood up. “Then let’s begin.”

Bei Ming Ni looked at Ning Feixuan and bowed respectfully. “Would the Yaochi Holy Maiden care to watch?”

This arrogant young man was surprisingly polite in front of Ning Feixuan. Mingyan’s face remained impassive, but he was even more determined not to lose.

Ning Feixuan nodded slightly. “You are both outstanding heroes. Of course I’d like to watch.”

Bei Ming Ni smiled, then looked at Mingyan, his eyes glinting. He likely intended to use Mingyan as a stepping stone to impress Ning Feixuan.

They left the hall, followed by the others, all eager to witness the battle between these two young geniuses.

Soon, a crowd had gathered around the plaza, and Mingyan and Bei Ming Ni had taken their places on the stage.

A fiery glow enveloped the plaza, forming a transparent red barrier that didn’t obstruct the view. Those outside could clearly see the situation inside.

Bei Ming Ni stood with his hands behind his back, his posture arrogant. “You can boast about being defeated by me for the rest of your life.”

“I’ve heard the Kun Peng is incredibly large, but it seems it’s just your ego that’s oversized,” Mingyan sighed. “Enough trash talk. Let’s begin.”

“Hmph.” Bei Ming Ni snorted, his eyes glinting coldly. Mingyan sensed his aura weaken slightly. Bei Ming Ni said, “Although I find it pathetic that you’re only at the Illuminating Sea Realm at your age, since my cultivation is so much higher than yours, I’ll lower my cultivation to avoid being accused of bullying you.”

“You talk too much.” Mingyan had already entered a state of battle readiness and replied calmly.

Bei Ming Ni’s eyes narrowed, a divine light flashing within them. He pushed off the ground and vanished, reappearing before Mingyan in an instant, his fist, like a bolt of lightning, striking at his face with a deafening sonic boom.

“So fast! Is this the extreme speed of the Kun Peng clan?” an elder in the crowd exclaimed. It was said the Kun Peng clan possessed unparalleled speed, and it seemed the rumors were true.

Mingyan used the Wind Spirit Steps, pushing the Wind Spirit Scripture to its limit, and dodged the punch. His expression turned serious. He had never underestimated his opponent, but he had to admit, he was stronger than he had imagined.

“This Mingyan is also fast, even though he’s only at the Illuminating Sea Realm… An ordinary Yang Tomb cultivator would likely be no match for him… These two can probably fight across realms.” A Holy Master’s eyes flickered, recognizing Mingyan’s extraordinary talent.

Bei Ming Ni didn’t give him a moment’s rest, immediately closing the distance again. Runes flashed beneath his feet, and he reappeared before Mingyan as if teleporting, his fist, enveloped in a black glow, striking out, causing the air to tremble. But this time, Mingyan didn’t dodge. He met his punch with his own.

Their fists collided with a dull thud, like a hammer striking a drum, heavy and oppressive!

Mingyan stumbled back three steps. His opponent’s physique was indeed powerful. The impact made his arm ache, as if he had punched a mountain, nearly losing all feeling.

Bei Ming Ni also stumbled back three steps, even more surprised. Even the rising star of the human race, An Canhui, wouldn’t dare to clash with him physically. The Demon Clan was known for their strong physiques, and the Kun Peng clan was among the strongest. Yet this man had matched him in a direct confrontation.

“Hmph, it seems you have some skills. I hope you won’t disappoint me.” Bei Ming Ni’s eyes burned with excitement. He enjoyed a good fight, especially against an opponent of similar strength. Such a battle ignited his battlelust!

A divine light erupted from his body, and his aura changed completely. His eyes sparkled, and a cold smile appeared on his lips. “Now, the warm-up is over.”

Mingyan didn’t say anything and beckoned him forward.

Bei Ming Ni stepped forward, his pace slow, but in the next instant, he appeared behind Mingyan, his arm, glowing with a black light, like a sharp, divine weapon, slicing downwards, as if to cut through space itself, swallowing the surrounding light.

But it was useless. Mingyan was no longer there! He had used the Wind Spirit Steps to their full potential, his vast Qi Sea giving him speed comparable to Bei Ming Ni’s.

He reappeared, throwing a heavy punch at Bei Ming Ni’s face. Bei Ming Ni, unable to dodge in time, abandoned any attempt to do so and, his eyes flashing with divine light, shot two beams of light at Mingyan’s eyes. Mingyan, wary, tilted his head to avoid them, his punch landing squarely on Bei Ming Ni’s face, sending him flying. But his cheek was grazed by the beams of light, drawing blood.

A fragrant aroma filled the air, a rich life force that was refreshing and invigorating.

Mingyan touched his cheek. The wound was already healing. His expression impassive, he stepped forward, a faint green glow enveloping him, like a god descending to the mortal world!

“Junior Brother doesn’t have much combat experience, yet he’s surprisingly skilled.” Yue Qingying smiled. She trusted Mingyan and didn’t think he would lose, but she was worried his lack of experience might make him reckless.

Yue Wu Xia’s gaze was cool, her long black hair dancing in the wind. Her thoughts were unreadable.

Ning Feixuan was quite surprised. The last time she saw Mingyan fight, at the Wind Spirit Moon Shadow Sacred Land, he had been at the Illuminating Sea Realm and had defeated a Yang Tomb Realm cultivator with incredible speed. She had been impressed then, but now, it seemed she had underestimated him.

But… that’s exactly why she should keep her distance. She mustn’t get involved with him, lest she develop any inappropriate feelings. Her heart was set on the Dao, and she had a goal to achieve. She couldn’t be distracted!

Bei Ming Ni rubbed his face and sneered. “I didn’t expect you to be so strong.”

He regrouped, his eyes cold and sharp. A strange phenomenon appeared behind him, a vast, turbulent ocean with a whale-like creature as large as a mountain rolling within it! A giant roc soared above, its wings covering the sky, its aura even more powerful than before.

Mingyan remained silent, enveloped in a green glow, runes flashing around him. Bei Ming Ni’s expression was cold and indifferent. He quickly dodged the chains of spiritual energy that had appeared from all directions!

He stepped forward, the Kun Peng Phenomenon behind him swirling, gradually merging. Runes flashed, his aura majestic. He took another step, and the space seemed to warp. He appeared above Mingyan and, with a powerful kick, his leg enveloped in black laws, struck at Mingyan’s head! The force was incredible! The very space seemed to tremble and groan!

Mingyan raised his arm to block, catching his opponent’s ankle. The impact sent a jolt through his arm, but he held on and swung him towards the ground.

But before he could hit the ground, two more beams of divine light shot out! They were aimed at Mingyan’s shoulders. He had no choice but to throw him away to dodge.

What a pain. This birdman could shoot lasers from his eyes… Mingyan frowned. In close combat, the beams were difficult to dodge. He needed to find a way to blind him.

Why did I start cultivating?

My purpose in cultivating was for you.

In my eyes, you were once so dazzling, pure and untouched, ethereal and detached from the mortal world – the goal I wanted to pursue with everything I had.

I wanted to catch up to your pace, to repay your kindness.

If it were possible, I even wanted to marry you. But that was destined to be a fruitless pursuit…

At least, that's what I used to think.

But now, just as I have given up on that unattainable fantasy and am facing my new life, you reappear before me, telling me how incredibly foolish you once were, how you ignored my feelings…

What position does this put my fiancée in? She's your best friend!

If you absolutely insist that I define our relationship, I'm sorry, you are merely a fellow cultivator fairy to me, nothing more. Fairy, please conduct yourself with dignity…

Fairy, what are you doing?!
