Chapter 8: Hold Me
They filmed daily life scenes for two consecutive days.
The morning’s shoot was also about Liang Yongping’s daily routines with her neighbors and her outings, which went quite smoothly.
Lunchtime.
Although the break room was simple, Jiang Mi had placed an exquisite vase on the table, filled with vibrant white roses. Jiang Mi was eating the nutritious lunch provided by the crew when Zhao Jia placed two beautiful oranges in front of her on the table.
Jiang Mi’s hand was halfway there when she turned and asked, “Are there any more?”
“Just two.”
Jiang Mi thought for a moment, then retracted her hand. “Then I’ll take them to Teacher Yan later.”
Zhao Jia raised an eyebrow, scrutinized her for a few seconds, and finally patted Jiang Mi’s shoulder with satisfaction. “Not bad, Little Jiang. You’ve been quite thoughtful these past few days.”
For three days straight, whenever there was something good to eat or use, she would send a portion over to Yan Wei. Even the soy milk for breakfast had been made in “duplicate” these past few days.
“Of course.”
Jiang Mi thought that she should probably deliver the gift she had prepared to Yan Wei in the next couple of days as well.
Yan Wei’s break room was right next door. The facilities were much better than Jiang Mi’s. In addition to the treatment provided by the crew, her company’s team had also specially tidied it up.
Yan Wei was leaning back in a soft chair, looking at her phone. As a top manager, Surui had to arrange things for other artists. Besides, Surui was a D-class Alpha. The person taking care of her today was her assistant, Bai Qiu.
Bai Qiu was a Beta, a relatively safe existence in the ABO world. Unlike Alphas and Omegas who had to prevent the chaos caused by pheromone leakage, they also had to be careful about the influence of their spiritual power.
Spiritual power could affect Alphas and Omegas neurologically and physically based on their rank or pheromone compatibility, which could lead to a loss of control and increase the risk factor.
Therefore, the personal assistants of celebrity actors were usually the more gentle and safe Betas.
At this moment, a gentle knock sounded at the door. Bai Qiu glanced at the silent Yan Wei and went to open it. The moment the door opened, Bai Qiu was momentarily stunned by the visitor’s smiling face. She greeted her with a smile, “Teacher Jiang.”
Jiang Mi raised her hand and waved at her. “Hello! Is Teacher Yan here? I’m here to give her something.”
Bai Qiu looked back. Yan Wei had already looked over.
Bai Qiu hadn’t been with Yan Wei for long, so she couldn’t quite gauge whether Yan Wei’s attitude was one of refusal or invitation.
But fortunately, Jiang Mi didn’t seem to have any intention of coming in. Jiang Mi handed her the things, but her words were directed at Yan Wei inside. “Freshly peeled oranges, to supplement your Vitamin C. I’ll be going now.”
After saying that, she greeted Bai Qiu again before turning to leave.
Bai Qiu closed the door, smiled, and placed the transparent box on the small table next to Yan Wei. She said in a low voice, “Teacher Jiang is really enthusiastic, sending things in all sorts of ways. Teacher Yan, would you like to try some?”
The orange segments inside were plump and glossy, full of life.
After hitting a wall so many times, that person could still come before her without any reservations.
She lowered her eyes to her phone. “You can have them.”
Bai Qiu wasn’t surprised by this. As Yan Wei’s assistant, such “perks” were countless. She had already eaten Jiang Mi’s offerings several times, and even had breakfast these past two days. She said her thanks, picked it up again, opened the box, and tried a segment. Her eyes lit up.
So sweet.
Even though she restrained her satisfied exclamation out of respect for Yan Wei, a sound still escaped her.
Yan Wei lifted her eyelashes, her gaze falling on the box of oranges. A few seconds later, she looked away again.
At a little past one in the afternoon, after a short break, the crew prepared to start filming.
Jiang Mi put two drops of eye drops in her eyes. Perhaps she hadn’t slept well last night, and her nap had been a bit too deep, so she was still a little dazed when she was woken up.
Jiang Mi patted her face to wake herself up.
Because of the eye drops, her eyes were reddish. Her patted skin was rosy-white. Coupled with the simple and proper costume she was wearing, she had a bewitching quality hidden within her purity. She also loved to smile. Even though she didn’t have the once-in-a-million looks and acting skills of Yan Wei, she could still attract people’s eyes.
A crew member nearby watched her reaction, snapped a photo, and then walked over to ask if they could keep it.
After looking at the photo, Jiang Mi smiled and praised the person’s good angle.
“Teacher Jiang, you’re so nice. Thank you.”
Jiang Mi smiled. “It’s nothing, it’s nothing. You took a great picture, I should be thanking you. Hey, what filter is this?”
The person recommended the app and filter. Hearing her being called “Teacher Jiang,” Jiang Mi said, “Don’t call me teacher. I haven’t acted in many shows. Just call me by my name.”
“Then I’ll call you Mimi. I hear your fans call you that.”
“No problem.”
Even the makeup artist was joking and laughing nearby. Shen Ruoxi, the actress playing the fiancée, heard the commotion and walked over with a gentle smile on her face. She had debuted early and was still popular, so although she was only two years older than Jiang Mi, she looked much more mature.
They had gotten along harmoniously during the script reading, so now that they were officially filming, they weren’t strangers.
She deliberately teased, calling out, “Mimi.”
Jiang Mi’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Teacher Shen, did you like the small gift?”
Shen Ruoxi said, “I loved it, I loved it. Thank you, Mimi. I was just thinking of changing my phone case.”
It was too lively where she was, and the gazes of those around them were more or less directed their way.
Yan Wei was not far away. The makeup artist had just finished touching up her makeup. Jiang Qu walked over to her, and the two of them happened to look at Jiang Mi at the same time.
“She seems quite familiar with Shen Ruoxi. She’s just afraid of you. That won’t do.”
Yan Wei said, “Where do you see that she’s afraid of me?”
It’s obvious. Jiang Qu: “In any case, you two need to get more familiar.”
After saying that, Jiang Qu added, “When you have time, ask President Tan for me when she’s free. I’d like to treat her to a meal.”
Yan Wei withdrew her gaze from those curving eyes. That person seemed to be able to smile carefree in front of anyone. She said faintly, “The company’s project is launching this week. Next week, perhaps.”
Jiang Qu nodded. “Alright, thanks.”
Yan Wei didn’t say anything. She turned to the side, only to hear Jiang Qu calling Jiang Mi’s name from behind, wanting to explain the scene to them.
**
“This scene is a major turning point in the relationship between Qin Shui and Liang Yongping. During the rehearsal, Yan Wei, you should pay attention to using your body language to guide Jiang Mi a bit. You two should discuss how to coordinate comfortably. As for Jiang Mi, the most important thing for you is the emotional struggle. That’s the key. Because there will be a close-up on your eyes, you must remain steady. Another close-up will push in on your hands. Your hands need to show resistance and forbearance, temptation and restraint, and finally, you’ll clutch Qin Shui’s waist. There will be a close-up on your hands at this point, so pay attention to that.”
Jiang Mi nodded. “Okay.”
Jiang Qu looked at the script and added, “As long as you get past this, it will lay the emotional foundation for the push-and-pull between you two later on. If you grasp it, you can reference it for all your emotional scenes later.”
Jiang Mi hadn’t been that nervous, but after hearing this, she unconsciously took a breath.
Although the past two days of filming had gone smoothly, not just the filming but also her relationships with everyone, the memory of the NGs from the intimacy scene a few days ago was still vivid.
“Clear the set,” Yan Wei suddenly said.
Jiang Qu’s attention was drawn. She nodded, summoned the assistant director and the floor manager, and gave the orders. Then they saw the people around them slowly start to clear out.
She then said to Shen Ruoxi at the side, “There’s not much to say for Ruoxi’s part. Your performance can be more natural, just be casual.”
“Understood.”
With that, Shen Ruoxi winked at Jiang Mi, mouthing for her to do her best.
Jiang Mi gave a dry laugh, then looked at Yan Wei. After Jiang Qu and Shen Ruoxi had moved to the side, she walked over to Yan Wei, lowered her eyes, and mumbled in a small voice, “Teacher Yan, thank you for your hard work… Could I trouble you to walk through the blocking with me first?”
Yan Wei might not believe it, but in all her years of acting, she had never been so humble. After all, the Movie Queen had really been held back by her last time, so today’s scene could not have any mistakes.
Yan Wei looked over. Jiang Mi was slightly taller than her, but she was wearing “Qin Shui’s” high heels, so she was a bit taller than Jiang Mi at the moment.
She could see Jiang Mi’s eyelashes, the bridge of her nose, and her lips more clearly.
Jiang Mi’s voice was of the gentle type. When she lowered her volume, her voice became very soft.
Then her whole person would become more approachable, which was quite consistent with her pheromones.
Yan Wei was silent for a moment, then said calmly, “Come here.”
Jiang Mi also went to change into a pair of high heels.
This scene was set in a market. Liang Yongping and her fiancée, Bai Xiao, were shopping in the bustling market. Bai Xiao was in a rare good mood and wanted to buy a dress for Liang Yongping. After choosing a dress, Liang Yongping headed to the fitting room, only to be pulled inside by someone. While the two were in an intense struggle, Bai Xiao, who had been waiting outside for a long time, called out Liang Yongping’s name.
The scene between the two in the fitting room was one of the key points in the script.
There weren’t many people around the set at the moment. Jiang Qu and the others were giving instructions in the distance, only occasionally glancing over.
It was relatively quiet here.
Because it was in a county town, the fitting room was rather “retro,” with no door, only a heavy curtain that dragged on the floor.
Jiang Mi held the dress she was about to try on and walked toward the fitting room. Just as her hand touched the curtain, a fair hand suddenly reached out from inside and pulled her in.
Due to inertia, the moment she entered, she lunged toward Yan Wei. Just like the first time they met.
Her hands grabbed onto Yan Wei’s arms, barely steadying her body that was about to collide.
“During the take, the pull will be stronger,” Yan Wei said.
Jiang Mi nodded and let go. “Okay, but I’ll definitely bump into you.”
Yan Wei quickly said, “React as you normally would. I’ll push you here.”
She then pointed to the wall on the side.
The curtain was half-drawn. Jiang Mi followed her finger, took a step, and stood by the wall hidden by the curtain. Yan Wei then stood in front of her.
Under the incandescent light, Jiang Mi saw the shadow of Yan Wei’s eyelashes, and then a reflection of herself in Yan Wei’s pupils.
“I’ll hold you.”
It was a completely emotionless sentence, yet Jiang Mi’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. She then reacted, “Okay, you hold me.”
Then Liang Yongping will struggle, she thought.
Yan Wei glanced at her, then lowered her head slightly. Her palm rested lightly on the wall, her posture looking like an embrace. Then, with her lips by Jiang Mi’s ear, she spoke one of Qin Shui’s lines.
Jiang Mi’s scalp tingled again. The scent of brandy seemed even more mellow than last time. A reaction quickly spread across her neck and arms. Her fingers curled slightly, wanting to hold onto something.
Or grab something.
This “perfect match” thing was really affecting her work state and progress.
“That’s about it. Yan Wei, Jiang Mi, get ready,” Jiang Qu’s voice came from outside.
Before the words had fully faded, Yan Wei had already straightened up, her eyes meeting Jiang Mi’s. She then quickly took a step back and said, “Even if the camera angles change, the rhythm is the same. Remember it.”
Before Jiang Mi could say thank you, Yan Wei had already walked out from behind the curtain.
Yan Wei walked a few steps out of the fitting room, raised her hand, and beckoned to Bai Qiu. When she came closer, she said one thing.
“Give me water.”
