The car pulled out of the parking lot as the sky gradually darkened.
Jiang Xiaoyi gripped the steering wheel with one hand and glanced at Meng Chuning in the passenger seat while turning a corner. “Sister?”
Meng Chuning’s cheeks were still flushed. Just moments ago in the back seat, Jiang Xiaoyi had tested the depth with two fingers, then deliberately pinched and toyed with her afterward. The numbness lingered in front of her chest even now.
When they switched to the front seats, Jiang Xiaoyi had draped her jacket over Meng Chuning’s shoulders, concealing the beige knit sweater underneath.
Meng Chuning turned to look at her. “Xiaoyi, I feel a bit hot.”
Jiang Xiaoyi first lowered the car’s air conditioning, then pressed a cup of lemon tea into her hand. “We’re almost there.”
“…” Meng Chuning took a sip through the straw. In any case, Jiang Xiaoyi wouldn’t let her take off the jacket until they reached the cinema.
On the way, the two picked a niche film that wouldn’t draw a big crowd, so they didn’t have to worry about being recognized.
The cinema’s indoor temperature was cool and just right. Meng Chuning no longer felt quite so hot.
She stood in the ticketing area, her gaze sweeping around. Couples nearby were paired off, wrapped in each other’s arms, chatting intimately without a care for prying eyes.
When Jiang Xiaoyi returned with a bucket of popcorn, she caught sight of a familiar figure at her side and paused in her steps.
“Sister…” Jiang Xiaoyi stood next to Meng Chuning and asked, “Take a look behind us. Don’t those two seem familiar?”
Meng Chuning, wearing sunglasses, turned around. A few seconds later, she hooked the sunglasses down with one finger, her eyes widening in disbelief. Even though the pair behind them was bundled up head to toe, they couldn’t escape Meng Chuning’s scrutinizing gaze.
The two women’s mouths fell open. Jing Ying leaned forward with an awkward smile. “Boss, you and Xiaoyi are here for a movie too?”
Gu Nanzhi released Jing Ying’s hand, about to offer some excuse, but swallowed her words at the incredulous look in Meng Chuning’s eyes.
“I’m not seeing things, right, Sister?” Jiang Xiaoyi blinked. Gu Nanzhi and Jing Ying out on a date together, holding hands no less.
So she’d been shipping the wrong pair before. Jing Ying and Li Qiunuo were just friends; Gu Nanzhi and Jing Ying were the real couple. No wonder Gu Nanzhi had gotten upset last time seeing Jing Ying film a kissing scene.
But Jiang Xiaoyi felt now wasn’t the time to dwell on that, since Meng Chuning looked just as shocked as she was.
Jing Ying whispered a reminder to Meng Chuning, “Chuning, it’s time to scan our tickets.”
Meng Chuning pushed her sunglasses back up with a fingertip and handed her ticket to the staff. “How long have you two been together?”
“Just hit the hundred-day mark.” For the first time, Jing Ying felt incredibly lucky—or rather, unlucky. Their first real date out, and they’d been caught red-handed by the boss herself.
“So you’ve been sneaking around behind my back for a hundred days.” Meng Chuning couldn’t believe she hadn’t suspected a thing. Was she really that oblivious?
Gu Nanzhi and Jing Ying hung their heads like scolded children. As Meng Chuning walked toward the auditorium, she said, “We’re recording the variety show tomorrow. Is it really okay for you two to be out like this?”
Jing Ying glanced at Jiang Xiaoyi. “You and Jiang Xiaoyi are out too.”
“I…” Meng Chuning was at a loss for words. “Anyway, you can’t let this get photographed. The company hasn’t prepped any PR for it, so be careful.”
Gu Nanzhi and Jing Ying nodded in unison.
“Sister…” Jiang Xiaoyi took Meng Chuning’s hand. “This is our auditorium.”
Meng Chuning’s mind was still reeling from the shock, her head spinning. She didn’t react right away.
The four of them entered the same auditorium. Gu Nanzhi and Jing Ying froze. What were the odds? Dating right under the boss’s nose took some serious nerve.
Jing Ying hurriedly clutched her stomach. “Boss, I’m suddenly not feeling well. I think I’ll head back.”
“Where does it hurt?” Gu Nanzhi started to ask, but Jing Ying tugged at her clothes and dragged her toward the exit. Gu Nanzhi got the hint. “Chuning, Xiaoyi, we’re heading out first.”
Before vanishing into the auditorium’s shadows, Jiang Xiaoyi overheard Gu Nanzhi muttering, “We agreed on a private screening room, but you didn’t want to. Had to go for the thrill.” Jing Ying shushed her.
Meng Chuning removed her sunglasses and texted Meng Fanyu right away, warning her to prepare PR talking points for Jing Ying and Gu Nanzhi.
Jiang Xiaoyi led Meng Chuning to their seats. Once seated, she asked, “Sister, are you mad?”
“No.” Meng Chuning shook her head. “I’m just shocked. I don’t feel angry at all.”
Jiang Xiaoyi rubbed her own cheeks. “I’m shocked too. Was it rude that I was shipping Jing Ying and Li Qiunuo’s CP this whole time?”
“I remember now.” Meng Chuning reached out and pinched her cheek. “That’s why you were so happy whenever you saw Jing Ying and Li Qiunuo in the same frame.”
“…” Jiang Xiaoyi’s cheeks puffed out under her fingers. She grabbed Meng Chuning’s hand. “Was it that obvious?”
“Of course it was.” A hint of jealousy flickered in Meng Chuning’s eyes. “You were happier to see them than to see me.”
Back when Jiang Xiaoyi and Meng Chuning weren’t close, she’d been nervous around Meng Chuning but relaxed at the sight of the Yingqiu CP. Meng Chuning had even wondered if her own charm was lacking.
“That was before.” Jiang Xiaoyi murmured softly. “Now I’m happiest when I see you, Sister.”
The home theater was vast and mostly empty, with only a handful of viewers. The glow from the massive screen played across their faces in shifting light and shadow.
Meng Chuning had zero interest in the movie. She leaned in, aiming for Jiang Xiaoyi’s lips. The leather seat creaked softly with the movement, but then a piece of popcorn was popped into her mouth.
They were a fist’s distance apart. Jiang Xiaoyi turned her face slightly. “Sister, this is a cinema. We can’t kiss here.”
Meng Chuning blinked, popcorn in her mouth. She should’ve booked a private screening room.
Jiang Xiaoyi smiled and crunched on her popcorn, turning her gaze back to the screen. The other patrons were absorbed in the film, creating a hushed atmosphere.
Meng Chuning chewed her lip, unable to hold back. She pulled out her phone and messaged Jiang Xiaoyi on WeChat, then wiggled it to get her attention.
Jiang Xiaoyi set the popcorn aside and opened the WeChat message.
M: 【Can I sit on your lap to watch?】
Jiang Xiaoyi’s earlobes turned pink after reading it. This was a cinema with cameras—Sister had to know that.
Xiao Yi: 【No, Sister,】
Meng Chuning let out a soft sigh and typed back.
M: 【Can we go home and watch a movie?】
The dim cinema light made Jiang Xiaoyi’s cheeks glow red under her phone screen.
M: 【Want you to pin me down in the home theater.】
Jiang Xiaoyi switched off her screen. Meng Chuning didn’t see the intoxicating flush that spread across her entire face.
Saying something like that in public added an unexpected thrill. Jiang Xiaoyi’s throat went dry. A few seconds later, she grabbed Meng Chuning’s wrist. “Sister, let’s go home.”
Meng Chuning chuckled lowly and pressed against Jiang Xiaoyi’s arm. “Not watching the movie?”
“…” Those two messages had Jiang Xiaoyi too worked up for any movie now. She regretted not listening to Sister yesterday and staying home all day.
…
By the time they returned to Lovers’ Water Bay, night had fully fallen.
Meng Chuning entered the code to unlock the door. Jiang Xiaoyi hugged her waist from behind, lips brushing her nape. “Sister… where’s the home theater?”
A sudden wave of warmth ground against her from behind, making Meng Chuning’s legs go weak. “Upstairs.”
Remembering the messages she’d sent at the cinema made Meng Chuning flush hotter. Jiang Xiaoyi couldn’t even wait until the door was fully open.
No sooner had she spoken than the living room lights flicked on.
Meng Fanyu came down from upstairs. “You’re back?”
Jiang Xiaoyi quickly released Meng Chuning, her heart pounding harder than when she’d read those messages at the cinema. Forcing composure, she greeted her. “Sister Fanyu.”
Meng Chuning touched her neck, where Jiang Xiaoyi’s kiss still burned.
Meng Fanyu eyed their stiff postures at the doorway, neither coming in. Drawing closer, she noticed Meng Chuning’s flushed face—and Jiang Xiaoyi’s even redder cheeks.
“…” Meng Fanyu grew awkward herself. Had she shown up at the worst possible moment and ruined theirs?
“Um…” Meng Fanyu turned and headed upstairs. “Dinner’s in the kitchen. Heat it up in the microwave if you want.”
She vanished around the stair corner in a flash. Jiang Xiaoyi rubbed her burning earlobe. “Did Sister Fanyu misunderstand something?”
Meng Chuning looked up at her. “I don’t think she misunderstood at all. You were clearly impatient just now.”
“…” Jiang Xiaoyi replayed her actions at the door—yeah, she’d acted like she couldn’t wait to devour Sister. No wonder Sister Fanyu had bolted.
Great, now she had no face left to show Sister Fanyu.
Jiang Xiaoyi frowned in regret. Meng Chuning wrapped her arms around her waist. “But I loved it.”
“Really?” Jiang Xiaoyi thought for a moment. “So you like it when I’m the one taking charge, being assertive?”
The sudden thrill of Jiang Xiaoyi scooping her waist, hugging her, kissing her nape—it made her heart race. She could feel Jiang Xiaoyi’s possessiveness so clearly.
Meng Chuning tilted her face up, her gaze full of affection saying it all. She even wanted Jiang Xiaoyi to be more assertive, more dominant.
Reading the signal, Jiang Xiaoyi bent down, slid an arm behind Meng Chuning’s knees, and effortlessly hoisted her over her shoulder, steadying her with a hand on her rear to prevent a fall.
“Ah?!” Meng Chuning’s feet left the ground, her belly draped over Jiang Xiaoyi’s shoulder. Her hands flailed before pressing against Jiang Xiaoyi’s back.
Jiang Xiaoyi carried her steadily upstairs to the bedroom. Before Meng Chuning could recover, she was pressed into the soft bed.
“Xiaoyi, I—mmph…” Meng Chuning’s lips were nipped, a soft tongue slipping into her mouth. The hand at her waist circled forward, grabbing her sweater hem and pushing it up.
Their breaths mingled, igniting instantly. Jiang Xiaoyi cracked her eyes open, watching Meng Chuning’s breathing grow ragged as their tongues tangled, her muffled sounds filling the air.
Meng Chuning’s mind went blank. Caught off guard, her breaths dissolved into chaos. Every sensation converged on her numb tongue tip; she forgot even to respond, only swallowing reflexively.
Only when Meng Chuning’s gaze began to lose focus, dampness welling at the corners of her eyes, did Jiang Xiaoyi suck on her lip and pull away.
Meng Chuning gasped for air, her breaths growing heavier in the quiet bedroom. The wetness in her eyes deepened; she took a long while to come back to herself.
Jiang Xiaoyi gazed down at her. “Sister, you seem like you can’t handle me like this.”
“…” Meng Chuning’s lips were swollen red, the bitten spot tender. Her knit sweater was shoved up to her collarbone, revealing how wildly her chest had heaved.
Jiang Xiaoyi brushed her reddened lip with a fingertip. “Feeling better now, Sister?”
Meng Chuning swallowed a few times, her voice hoarse when she spoke. “Xiaoyi, you…”
Just a few minutes of Jiang Xiaoyi pinning and kissing her had done this. Meng Chuning licked her lip. “Where did you learn to do that?”
Before, Jiang Xiaoyi had barely known how to kiss, yet now she’d effortlessly left her trembling and weak.
“No lessons needed…” Jiang Xiaoyi propped her arms on either side of Meng Chuning, her cheeks faintly flushed as she said, “Because it comes naturally with you, Sister.”
Meng Chuning finally caught her breath, licking her heated lips before murmuring, “Xiaoyi, you’ve gotten so good at sweet-talking lately.”
Jiang Xiaoyi let out a muffled chuckle. “Aren’t you a little too easy to please, Sister?”
Just that one line about coming naturally with her had made Meng Chuning so happy. Jiang Xiaoyi realized her sister really was simple to satisfy.
Meng Chuning tilted her head back, pressing her lips to Jiang Xiaoyi’s in a hazy murmur. “I want more.”
“…”
Jiang Xiaoyi’s palm slid to the back of her neck, pulling her closer to deepen the kiss.
Meng Chuning parted her lips, their breaths mingling as Jiang Xiaoyi’s kisses forced her chin up again and again. The only sound in her ears was the intimate rhythm of their mouths meeting.
It was a long while before Jiang Xiaoyi pulled away, panting softly. “Sister, should we keep watching the movie?”
“Yes…” Meng Chuning’s arms looped around Jiang Xiaoyi’s neck, her voice even softer than a whine. She still remembered the message she’d sent from the theater earlier—tonight, she planned to sleep here in the home theater with Xiaoyi.
Jiang Xiaoyi massaged the nape of her neck. “Are you hungry, Sister? I can go to the kitchen and whip up something to eat, then we can watch together. Sound good?”
They’d been tangled up in the bedroom kissing for a solid hour since getting home, and it had taken its toll. Meng Chuning did feel a bit hungry.
Meng Chuning nodded with a soft hum. “I just want fruit. There are fresh strawberries in the fridge that were delivered today. I haven’t touched them yet.”
“Got it.” Jiang Xiaoyi got up and left the bedroom, heading downstairs.
She pulled the strawberries from the fridge, soaked them for five minutes, then rinsed them thoroughly under cool water.
These strawberries were plump and vividly red, their sweet aroma filling the air. Freshly washed and glistening with water droplets, they looked even more tempting.
Jiang Xiaoyi thought of how well her mom had been tending the fruit garden— these strawberries were perfect, so mouthwatering she could hardly resist taking a bite just looking at them.
She hulled the strawberries, washed off the leaves, and arranged them neatly on a plate before carrying it upstairs.
Meng Chuning had just changed into a nightgown and stepped out of the bathroom.
“Did you shower, Sister?” Jiang Xiaoyi blinked, noticing the stray water droplets still clinging to Meng Chuning’s collarbone.
“Mm.” Meng Chuning took the plate. “You go wash up first, Xiaoyi. Then come find me in the home theater.”
Jiang Xiaoyi nodded. “Okay.”
She’d glanced at it on her way upstairs earlier—the home theater was on the third floor.
The thought of curling up alone with her sister in the home theater to watch a movie made Jiang Xiaoyi’s heart race with excitement. It would be so cozy.
After a quick shower, Jiang Xiaoyi toweled her damp hair as she headed upstairs.
The home theater door stood half-open, flickering light spilling from the crack.
Jiang Xiaoyi pushed it open and stepped inside. Meng Chuning turned at the sound. “Xiaoyi, what kind of movie do you want to watch?”
“Anything works.” Jiang Xiaoyi closed the door and walked over, glancing around the room.
The home theater was done in sleek dove-gray tones—clean and cool, yet warmly inviting.
“Okay.” Meng Chuning selected a film and hit play, then turned to Jiang Xiaoyi. “Want a strawberry?”
Meng Chuning cradled the plate and took a bite, a bead of juice glistening on her lips. It looked utterly enticing.
“They’re too big. I can’t finish one in a single bite.” Before Meng Chuning could finish, Jiang Xiaoyi leaned in and took the rest from her mouth. She picked out a smaller one from the plate and held it up. “How about this?”
Meng Chuning opened her mouth expectantly, and Jiang Xiaoyi smiled, feeding it to her.
The movie flickered to life on the massive screen, bathing the creamy white sofa area in soft light.
The surround sound wrapped them in total immersion.
They sat on the plush shag carpet, backs against the sofa, watching together.
As the opening credits ended, Jiang Xiaoyi shifted to lie down, using Meng Chuning’s thighs as a pillow beneath her head.
Jiang Xiaoyi tilted her face up to gaze at her, the soft warmth of those thighs cradling her neck. “Am I too heavy, Sister?”
“Not at all.” Meng Chuning looked down, her fingertip brushing the little mole beneath Jiang Xiaoyi’s eye.
The film rolled into the main plot, smooth English dialogue flowing through the speakers.
Meng Chuning tilted her head, watching her. Jiang Xiaoyi smiled back. Neither paid the movie much mind.
Jiang Xiaoyi relaxed completely, her lashes fluttering down and up as she whispered, “Sister, can you feed me a strawberry?”
“Do you want a big one or a small one?” Meng Chuning’s fingertip hovered over a large berry. One bite each would be perfect. She started to pick it up, but Jiang Xiaoyi said, “A small one, Sister.”
Meng Chuning pointed to the big one. “But I think this one’s tastier.”
“No, that’s too big.” Jiang Xiaoyi lifted her neck and reached up, pushing Meng Chuning’s nightgown to her waist. “I’m afraid you won’t be able to swallow it.”
Meng Chuning stared at the large strawberry, puzzled. “Why not?”
She could always take two bites.
Meng Chuning’s back rested against the sofa, her pale legs splayed on the shag carpet. Only when the nightgown hiked up did she realize her sister hadn’t bothered with underwear.
“Sister…” Jiang Xiaoyi turned her face, staring up close at the flushed heat between her legs. “Don’t sit on the carpet.”
“Where should I sit then?” The words had barely left Meng Chuning’s mouth when Jiang Xiaoyi lifted her head from those thighs and tapped her own lips with a slender finger.
Meng Chuning’s heart suddenly pounded. She gripped her hands tightly, her whole body heating at the memory of last time.
Jiang Xiaoyi lay back patiently, waiting. Meng Chuning first straddled her waist, then hesitantly inched upward, lips pressed thin.
Jiang Xiaoyi’s gaze trailed slowly upward until it met hers fully, a smile curving her mouth. “What are you shy about, Sister?”
Dazed by that smile, Meng Chuning couldn’t bear to look down. She trembled faintly, her skin flushing pink all over.
Jiang Xiaoyi turned her head and pressed a kiss to one flushed knee. Then Meng Chuning watched as she plucked a smaller strawberry from the plate.
Jiang Xiaoyi’s eyes fixed on that pink flush as she hooked a hand behind her knee. She lifted it and pressed the berry inside.
“Mm?!” The Little Butterfly parted under the pressure, clamping onto the strawberry. The cool sensation made Meng Chuning’s breath hitch sharply.
“Don’t tense your belly. If it bites too deep…” Jiang Xiaoyi’s palm pressed flat against her stomach, coaxing her to relax. “I won’t be able to reach it later.”
“…”
Meng Chuning’s legs went weak. The next instant, Jiang Xiaoyi tilted her face up, tongue flicking in.
Tears pricked Meng Chuning’s eyes. Her knees buckled, spreading wide against the carpet as she sank down.
In the haze, she heard Jiang Xiaoyi’s muffled verdict.
“Bursting with juice.”
“Purely sweet.”
