Chapter 65: Trust
A brief silence.
“What if you had met Senior Sister first?” Wen Yu pinched the pen in her hand and asked instead, “Would you like her?”
Ye Qizhen didn’t expect Wen Yu to ask this, nor did she understand why Wen Yu would make such a meaningless hypothesis. Thinking Wen Yu misunderstood that she had feelings for Shu Chen, and with her mind in a mess anyway, she said, “Of course not, I only treat her as a friend.”
“You wouldn’t? She’s so nice, treats you very well too, and you have the same interests. You’re very happy when you’re with her, aren’t you?” Wen Yu tried her best to speak calmly, but still revealed some emotions.
Ye Qizhen was stunned, her heart aching. She understood that many times when Wen Yu spoke so lightly, those were actually her true thoughts deep down. But why would Wen Yu think this way?
Wen Yu stopped and said no more. She saw Ye Qizhen’s eyes turning red, glistening with tears.
“Where are your thoughts going? It’s completely different…” When Ye Qizhen spoke again to explain, her voice was choked with tears and trembling slightly.
Crying. Now it was Wen Yu’s turn to be at a loss. Seeing tears streaming down Ye Qizhen’s cheeks, she froze, but couldn’t sit still. She got up to wipe them for Ye Qizhen.
Ye Qizhen looked at Wen Yu with red-rimmed eyes, her nose extremely sour. She either held back tears or, once she started crying, the tears were completely uncontrollable.
Wen Yu’s heart clenched. She had never seen someone who shed tears so easily. “Why are you crying?”
One crying, one wiping tears; the stalemated atmosphere finally eased a little.
“Did I do very badly?” Ye Qizhen choked out. She thought Wen Yu was just joking before and didn’t take it to heart, but she never expected Wen Yu to be even more sensitive than she knew.
Wen Yu’s fingertips wiped across the wet corners of her eyes. “No.”
“Then why don’t you trust me?” Ye Qizhen felt aggrieved. She trusted Wen Yu’s liking for her 100%, and she thought Wen Yu trusted her the same way. So hearing what Wen Yu said, she felt particularly bad, even if they were words spoken in anger.
She clearly liked Wen Yu so much, but what did her liking look like in Wen Yu’s eyes?
Thought a lot in a moment.
Hearing Ye Qizhen crying and blaming herself, Wen Yu felt terrible. “No, it’s me overthinking. Don’t cry.”
Wen Yu understood it was her own problem. Being with Ye Qizhen was really comfortable. Ye Qizhen would put her at the tip of her heart, think for her everywhere, and find ways to make her laugh immediately when she was unhappy. Usually, she was always gentle and considerate. Ye Qizhen knew she was prone to nightmares and slept poorly at night, so many times she would wait for her to fall asleep first before sleeping herself.
She had never seen anyone as silly as Ye Qizhen.
Even thought, Does Ye Qizhen deserve better?
Ye Qizhen sniffled, trying hard to hold back tears. After calming down for a while, she asked, “You think I like you because you treat me well?”
Wen Yu fell silent. She was gloomy, and all along it had been Ye Qizhen patiently encouraging her, pulling her out of the haze. Ye Qizhen was too special to her; but what about her? Apart from accompanying Ye Qizhen when needed, what else could she give Ye Qizhen?
Perhaps she subconsciously thought that Wen Yu could only meet one Ye Qizhen, but Ye Qizhen could meet many Wen Yus.
Ye Qizhen praised Shu Chen more than once. She was very sensitive, especially every time she saw Ye Qizhen being close to Shu Chen. This sensitivity wasn’t just jealousy or possessiveness, but also insecurity and inferiority.
She had a proud personality, proud enough not to care about anything around her, except she would feel inferior in front of Ye Qizhen. Inferior that she wasn’t good enough, afraid time would dilute their feelings, worried Ye Qizhen would meet someone she liked more one day.
Probably due to her personality, from the moment she confirmed the relationship with Ye Qizhen, she had prepared herself for the future when Ye Qizhen wouldn’t be by her side. So she cherished every day with Ye Qizhen, giving all the passion she could to Ye Qizhen. She liked kissing Ye Qizhen until she was breathless, being incredibly proactive in bed, leaving hickeys all over Ye Qizhen every time.
But even prepared for the worst, she would still be afraid… Her coolness and indifference didn’t work at all here with Ye Qizhen, yet she was willing to fall in regardless of the outcome.
“What do you like about me?” Wen Yu stared at Ye Qizhen and asked, her eyes faintly hot. A question that had puzzled her all along.
“I folded so many stars for you during summer vacation, didn’t you read them properly?” Ye Qizhen felt even more aggrieved. Clearly, every one was a confession, telling her how much she liked her.
How could Wen Yu not have read them properly? She kept every note in her notebook, reading them repeatedly many times.
“Actually, at the very beginning, I also wondered if I had special feelings for you because you treated me too well.” Ye Qizhen continued, smiling through tears. “Remember when I celebrated my birthday in freshman year? You asked me that day if I treated everyone as well as I treated you. I said you were different. You asked me why, and I couldn’t say at the time. Later I knew the reason, but I was cowardly and didn’t dare tell you.”
Wen Yu remembered vividly. As long as it was a beautiful memory, it was about Ye Qizhen. Ye Qizhen really gave her too much.
“I just like you.” Mixed with a few sobs, Ye Qizhen said these words clumsily and sincerely. “I like you because you are Wen Yu. No matter how well others treat me, my heart won’t flutter. But if it’s Wen Yu, it will. Do you understand?”
It’s always hard to explain why you like someone, but strangely, just looking at her once more, you know the liking for her is unique.
I like you because you are Wen Yu.
Wen Yu couldn’t speak for a long time, the corners of her eyes turning red. “Fool, what’s good about me?”
Saying this again. Ye Qizhen stared intently at Wen Yu’s brows and eyes. “Don’t always say the person I like isn’t good… I will be sad.”
Heart-piercingly moved, Wen Yu pursed her lips lightly. Lowering her eyes slightly, warmth slid down her cheek.
This was the first time Ye Qizhen saw Wen Yu cry. Her own tears hadn’t stopped yet, but she hurriedly wiped the tear stains from Wen Yu’s face. Once Wen Yu cried, she couldn’t hold back even more.
She realized she should cry less in front of Wen Yu in the future. Watching the person she liked cry was more torturous than crying herself.
Wen Yu leaned forward and hugged Ye Qizhen, arms tightening around her waist and back. A hug surpassed all words.
Ye Qizhen hugged Wen Yu tightly too. Only now did she realize what kind of pessimistic emotion Wen Yu carried when she said “don’t lie to me” back then. She knew Wen Yu was different from others and found it hard to feel secure. It didn’t matter; she was willing to give it patiently, bit by bit.
In a more intimate embrace, Wen Yu held Ye Qizhen. As her arms tightened bit by bit, many insecurities slowly dissolved inch by inch. Suddenly, a soft voice came from beside her ear: “You are the fool.”
She smiled silently, closing her eyes and pressing closer into Ye Qizhen’s arms, starting to not restrain her dependence at all, unloading the heavy thoughts, leaving only liking and attachment.
After a long time, her neck felt wet and cool.
Wen Yu held Ye Qizhen’s waist with one hand and cupped her cheek with the other. Sure enough, still crying.
Ye Qizhen tilted her face up slightly, letting Wen Yu wipe her tears. After pondering for a while, “I will keep a distance from Senior Sister, and I’ll mail that book to her.”
Still thinking about this matter. “I didn’t distrust you.”
Ye Qizhen also guessed Wen Yu’s words tonight were mostly out of spite. They had liked each other for so long; there was no reason not to have even this bit of trust. “In the future, if there’s anything, let’s talk it out properly, don’t keep it bottled up inside.”
Heard from Tang Tang that too many cold wars between couples would create a rift in feelings.
Wen Yu nodded. “Mn.”
Ye Qizhen broke into a smile through tears and asked, “Did we count as arguing tonight?”
Wen Yu looked at her nose red from crying. “This counts as arguing?”
Even if they really had a tiff, it was hard for the two to argue. Ye Qizhen cried easily, and Wen Yu couldn’t bear to see Ye Qizhen cry. Before the argument even started, they were already giving each other a way out.
In the end, they cared enough about each other in their hearts.
Ye Qizhen said earnestly again: “If you’re really unhappy, you can lose your temper at me. You know I… am easy to bully. Don’t sulk and ignore me.”
Wen Yu was amused. Looking at Ye Qizhen’s eyes red as a rabbit’s, she couldn’t help saying, “Crying like this without even arguing, and you still want me to lose my temper?”
Ye Qizhen smiled speechlessly. She clung to Wen Yu, saying somewhat willfully, “Anyway, you can’t ignore me.”
This was the main point.
Wen Yu said softly, “When did I ignore you?”
Ye Qizhen frowned. “You clearly did…”
Wen Yu was helpless. Just left her hanging for a little while; didn’t expect Ye Qizhen to be anxious like this. She coaxed repeatedly, “Still crying, how can you cry so much?”
Ye Qizhen spoke with a heavy nasal voice, “Who made me a crybaby?” Crying tonight was good too; at least Wen Yu would understand her feelings better, and she could give Wen Yu more security.
“Don’t think randomly in the future.” Ye Qizhen said seriously.
“Mn.” Wen Yu smiled and felt heartache at the same time. Thinking of the many definitive words Ye Qizhen said tonight, she realized she was much luckier than she imagined. Seeing Ye Qizhen’s eyes were already swollen from crying, she whispered, “I know I was wrong, stop crying.”
“Where were you wrong?” Ye Qizhen questioned, but her tone was soft, lacking any imposing manner. Her voice after crying sounded more like acting coquettishly.
“Shouldn’t have spoken out of anger, making the crybaby cry.” Wen Yu said, gently kissing the corner of her mouth to comfort her.
Ye Qizhen instantly had no objections; she just fell for this trick. As soon as their lips parted, she kissed Wen Yu’s lips nearby too. When touching, tears melted between their lips, slightly salty and astringent.
But looking at each other after the kiss, the aftertaste was sweet.
“Wen Yu.”
“Mn.”
“As much as you like me, I like you that much.”
