Chapter 69: Swords Drawn
Xue Mu didn’t understand what Diwu Miaofu meant, so she said, “My wife is not a fierce beast or a flood; she’s not scary. Could it be that you, Sister Diwu, have encountered a woman like a fierce beast who scared you away?”
Diwu Miaofu’s face turned red. She snorted twice and turned her body towards her own guest room.
Xue Mu pursed her lips in a smile, thinking does this young Diwu Miaofu also have a wife? But this was someone else’s private matter, so she naturally couldn’t pry too much. She closed the door, washed up, and rested. She read Xue Duanhun’s suicide note twice, put it away, and lay on the bed with her eyes closed to rest. She didn’t know if an incense stick’s time had passed, but it took her a long time to fall asleep.
The next day, Xue Mu woke up before the Hour of the Rabbit. Clutching her chest, she felt a vague discomfort. So she sat cross-legged and silently recited the mantra Wu Qing taught her, mobilizing her internal breath to travel along her meridians. A layer of sweat broke out all over her body. After opening her eyes, she took a deep breath, instantly feeling refreshed, and got out of bed to wash up with satisfaction.
Diwu Miaofu was still sleeping soundly. Xue Mu knocked on the door and said, “Sister Diwu, if you can’t get up in time, I’ll leave first.”
Just as she stepped on the stairs to go down, the door opened with a “bang.” Diwu Miaofu’s hair was messy, her eyes not yet open, but a heartless smile was already on her face. “Sister Xue, don’t rush, coming right away!”
The waiter’s eyes went straight watching Diwu Miaofu eat three bowls of Mutton Soup with Bread, twenty pan-fried buns, and five pieces of jujube cake, as well as cracking countless melon seeds.
After last night, Xue Mu was used to it. After Diwu Miaofu finished eating, she said, “Sister Diwu, have you really thought it through? Going to Blue Wind Mountain this time, I don’t want conflict, but if I can’t go up Blue Wind Mountain, I will have to use force.”
“If you want to use force, you have to find me. I’m good at it.” Diwu Miaofu laughed loudly.
Xue Mu smiled. “Anyway, let’s agree in advance. If you start hitting and cursing people as soon as you go up, I will get angry and ignore you in the future!”
Diwu Miaofu was so shocked she spat out the melon seed kernel. “That won’t do! Sister Xue, you have to talk to me!”
Xue Mu took her sword and bundle and said, “Alright, let’s go!”
Walking out of the town, the two gradually approached the foot of Blue Wind Mountain. The towering mountain looked even more magnificent under the sunlight. The deep blue of the rocks and the verdant green of the pine forests complemented each other. Diwu Miaofu sighed in a low voice, “Wow, Blue Wind Mountain is indeed very beautiful. But why is it called ‘Blue Wind Mountain’ instead of ‘Blue Stone Mountain’?”
Xue Mu said, “Maybe the sky is blue, the stones are blue, and they also hope the wind is blue.”
Diwu Miaofu said, “That’s really strange. How can the wind be blue?”
Xue Mu smiled without speaking. The two went up along the mountain road, away from the noisy town. The air on Blue Wind Mountain was fresh, accompanied by the scent of pine trees, making one’s chest comfortable, unable to help but want to breathe more. Soon, the two arrived halfway up the mountain. From a distance, they saw a stone gate standing on the long stone stairs. A plaque hung high above the gate, with four characters “Blue Wind Mountain Sect” written in gold paint. A pair of stone lions stood on each side of the plaque, majestic and lifelike.
“We’re here,” Diwu Miaofu said.
The two walked towards the mountain gate. Suddenly, two figures flashed out from both sides of the mountain road, blocking their way. Two disciples in Taoist robes, with slender figures and upright temperaments, held long swords in their hands, their gazes sweeping back and forth between Xue Mu and Diwu Miaofu like torches.
“Do you two have a visiting card?”
Xue Mu said, “I am Xue Mu, here to find Sect Leader Qi Qing to discuss important matters.”
The disciple looked disdainful, sweeping a glance at her. “Find the Sect Leader? Not everyone can go up Blue Wind Mountain; one must have the corresponding qualifications. You want to find the Sect Leader, do you have anything to prove your identity?”
Xue Mu wasn’t angered by the disciple’s expression, but pondered calmly. She naturally understood the rules of this renowned orthodox sect, so she said, “By the order of my master, I have a letter that needs to be personally delivered to Sect Leader Qi Qing.”
The two disciples looked at each other. Xue Mu was vigilant, ready to deal with possible changes. Diwu Miaofu looked around, saw two squirrels intimately sticking together on a pine tree, and laughed out loud.
One of the disciples, understanding the other’s look, spoke first, “I know who you are. You are the friend of the visitor from a few days ago. Sorry, our Sect Leader has an order. Unless you pay with sincerity, we disciples can let you up the mountain!”
Xue Mu said, “What specific sincerity?”
The disciple said arrogantly, “Naturally, hand over the head of the traitorous disciple Xue Duanhun!”
Suppressing the rising anger, Xue Mu said in a deep voice, “Sorry, as Xue Duanhun’s personal disciple, it is difficult for me to fulfill this order of Sect Leader Qi Qing!”
The disciple said loudly, “Since that’s the case, please go back, both of you!”
While he exchanged glances with the other disciple, Diwu Miaofu beside Xue Mu said, “Sister Xue, are they asking you to cut off your master’s head and send it to Blue Wind Mountain?”
Xue Mu said, “Killing one’s master is despised by the Jianghu martial arts world, let alone a disciple personally cutting off her master’s head! I know Sect Leader Qi Qing had some conflicts with my master, but this request is truly excessive! As long as Sect Leader Qi Qing reads my master’s letter, she will know what to do!”
The disciple shouted, “Don’t you understand? You are asked to present the head. If you can’t present it, leave! Is our Sect Leader someone a female hedonist like you can see at will? Xue Duanhun is your master? I think you are the same kind of trash as her. Don’t be hypocritical here asking for justice for your master—”
Before he finished speaking, Xue Mu’s vision blurred. Diwu Miaofu made a move. However, none of the three saw how she moved. The disciple who was hit flew directly up to the height of dozens of stone steps and fainted on the spot!
Xue Mu exclaimed, “Sister!” In that instant, she secretly rejoiced that it was Diwu Miaofu who attacked. If she had started it, even if she saw the Sect Leader, she would probably be held heavily accountable.
Diwu Miaofu did as she pleased, naturally not knowing what Xue Mu was thinking. She would attack if she was unhappy. Moreover, Xue Mu was being insulted, so naturally she had to draw her sword to help. Since she didn’t have a sword on her, she could only use her fists.
“Sister Xue, this little turtle Taoist won’t let us in. Why don’t we just barge up!” Diwu Miaofu said loudly. “Let’s go!”
The other disciple had already drawn his long sword, shouted loudly, and stabbed at Diwu Miaofu. Diwu Miaofu dodged easily, simultaneously punching at the disciple’s face. The disciple hurriedly blocked with his sword for defense. Unexpectedly, Diwu Miaofu didn’t hit his face, but punched downwards, hitting his abdomen, knocking him flying as well!
Xue Mu didn’t want to draw her sword, but the commotion had been heard on the mountain. Suddenly, many disciples surged out from the side of the mountain road, using lightness skills familiar to Xue Mu to jump down from the stone steps. Long swords gleamed coldly, coming towards her and Diwu Miaofu!
