Chapter 21 p2: The Cannon Fodder A Who Has a Crush on the Female Lead O (18)
Jiang Mengyu was in the kitchen making congee. In her mind, 031 was enthusiastically broadcasting Chi Jingyan’s real-time updates.
[Chi Jingyan is awake.]
[She has confirmed the time.]
[She has discovered that something is wrong.]
[…]
Jiang Mengyu’s expression didn’t change. She stirred the rice porridge in the pot with a spoon. Secretary Zhao had sent over ingredients yesterday, so today they weren’t having plain congee. Jiang Mengyu had added minced meat and green vegetables.
The aroma of the food filled the entire kitchen.
031 was silent for a while, either because it was lagging or for some other reason. Only when Jiang Mengyu had ladled the vegetable and lean meat congee into a bowl did it suddenly speak:
[She’s coming.]
Jiang Mengyu knew without it saying.
What came before Chi Jingyan’s footsteps was the scent of jasmine mixed with pear and lychee wine. The scent made Jiang Mengyu’s heart start to beat faster. It seemed that ever since she had temporarily marked Chi Jingyan, she had become more sensitive to her pheromones.
The sweet wine scent grew closer.
Just as Chi Jingyan’s figure was about to appear at the kitchen entrance, Jiang Mengyu, holding the bowl, quickly tilted her head.
BANG—!!
The bullet flew past her hair and hit the wall in front of her, leaving a deep bullet hole.
A wisp of white smoke drifted from the bullet hole, showing just how ruthless the shot had been. But Jiang Mengyu first looked down at her hand.
Some of the congee in the bowl had spilled.
Jiang Mengyu turned around with the bowl. Chi Jingyan was standing at the kitchen entrance, looking at her with cold eyes, still holding the familiar small silver pistol.
“Why did you dodge this time?” Chi Jingyan mocked.
Of course.
The first time, Jiang Mengyu hadn’t dodged because she hadn’t seen any real killing intent in Chi Jingyan’s eyes. She knew Chi Jingyan wouldn’t really do it.
But this time, if she hadn’t dodged, that bullet would have really blown her head off.
But she didn’t reveal her true thoughts. Instead, she pursed her lips and said in a low voice, “You haven’t had breakfast yet.”
Breakfast my ass!
Chi Jingyan felt like killing Jiang Mengyu right now!
“Jiang! Meng! Yu!” Chi Jingyan said, enunciating each word. “You really have some guts.”
Jiang Mengyu glanced at her, not angry. “You know, I’m an orphan.”
Chi Jingyan was so angry her eyes turned red. “Get out now!!”
If Jiang Mengyu stayed in her sight any longer, Chi Jingyan couldn’t guarantee she wouldn’t make a move on her again.
“A-Yan,” Jiang Mengyu placed the bowl on the table. She lowered her eyes, her expression seemingly dejected. “You don’t want me anymore?”
Chi Jingyan sneered. “I have no interest in keeping a dog that bites. Get lost!”
The gland on the back of her neck was still throbbing with a dull ache. Just thinking about how Jiang Mengyu had bitten through her gland and injected her own pheromones into her body made Chi Jingyan want to kill someone.
She gritted her teeth tightly, a hint of moisture welling up in her eyes.
Jiang Mengyu felt the intense fluctuation of her pheromones. She didn’t know if it was the effect of the temporary mark, but she seemed to be able to understand Chi Jingyan’s mood through her pheromones.
“I know you’re very angry, and I don’t want to make excuses for myself,” Jiang Mengyu’s voice was very soft. “You can punish me however you want, but don’t ruin your own health.”
“Get out!!”
Chi Jingyan’s eyes searched around. The next second, she unhesitatingly picked up the bowl of plain congee on the table and smashed it fiercely on the ground.
The vegetable and lean meat congee that Jiang Mengyu had woken up early to cook was all spilled on the floor, along with the shards of the porcelain bowl, splattering everywhere.
Chi Jingyan was truly furious.
Jiang Mengyu thought of the casual and relaxed attitude she had when she coaxed her last night, saying it was just a temporary mark. It turned out that some things were only unbearable when they happened to oneself.
If it had been Chi Jingyan who had marked her last night, would she still be this angry?
Jiang Mengyu didn’t plan to provoke Chi Jingyan any further. She bent down and picked up a piece of broken porcelain from the floor. “Remember to have Secretary Zhao send someone to clean up later. Don’t cut your feet.”
“I don’t need you to tell me what to do!” Chi Jingyan pointed at the door. “Get out now!”
Her voice was trembling.
Jiang Mengyu obediently walked out, even closing the door behind her.
Seeing this, 031 couldn’t even gloat.
[Host, what do we do now?]
Although it knew that the current situation was all the Host’s own doing, seeing the Host being kicked out so pathetically, 031 couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for her.
“Wait,” Jiang Mengyu sat down on the shoe-changing bench by the door.
031: [Huh?]
Jiang Mengyu: “What else?”
Chi Jingyan had only told her to get out, not where to go.
As long as she didn’t appear in front of Chi Jingyan for the time being, it would be fine.
Jiang Mengyu didn’t have her phone. She didn’t know how long she had been waiting at the door. She had only had one bite of the congee she had cooked in the morning and was already a little hungry.
The elevator next to her suddenly dinged twice. Jiang Mengyu looked up and met the eyes of Secretary Zhao, who was walking out.
Professor Chen was following behind him.
Secretary Zhao wasn’t surprised to see Jiang Mengyu sitting at the door. But when Professor Chen saw her, his eyes lit up. “You were kicked out by the Young Miss?”
He asked without any politeness. If it had been anyone else asked like this, they might have felt even more worried.
“Mmm,” Jiang Mengyu was also very frank, not trying to hide anything.
Professor Chen became even more excited. “Then can you come with me?”
After saying that, he didn’t give Jiang Mengyu a chance to speak. He nimbly bypassed Secretary Zhao and was the first to walk into the apartment. “I’ll go ask the Young Miss!”
In his eyes, Jiang Mengyu had no right to choose for herself. Her fate was in Chi Jingyan’s hands.
Jiang Mengyu didn’t bother to argue with him. She lowered her head under the sympathetic gazes of the two assistants and continued to wait quietly.
The atmosphere inside the apartment was even more oppressive than outside.
Secretary Zhao only knew that Jiang Mengyu had angered Chi Jingyan, but he didn’t know the details. He guessed it might have something to do with Chi Jingyan’s susceptible period, but he hadn’t expected Jiang Mengyu to be so bold.
She had temporarily marked Chi Jingyan!
“Young Miss, your body…”
Secretary Zhao’s expression became much more serious.
Chi Jingyan’s face was extremely ugly. Her body wasn’t too uncomfortable now. Apart from the throbbing and burning of the gland on the back of her neck, there was no other discomfort. But Chi Jingyan was in a very bad mood.
She suddenly remembered the first time she had met Jiang Mengyu after she had been expelled. Jiang Mengyu had said that she wanted to see if she could mark her. Later, Jiang Mengyu had even used several Alphas for an experiment.
Perhaps it was because Jiang Mengyu had been too obedient lately that Chi Jingyan had forgotten that Jiang Mengyu was originally a dog that bites.
She had been bitten by this dog, and it was her own fault for being too careless.
The discomfort at the back of her neck was a constant reminder to Chi Jingyan of just how naive and foolish she had been.
Chi Jingyan closed her eyes. “How is it?”
She was asking Professor Chen.
“About the same as last time,” Professor Chen’s face was filled with unconcealed excitement. “The level of pheromones in your body has stabilized.”
This meant that Jiang Mengyu’s pheromones were very effective, much more so than inhibitors.
Yesterday, he had suggested that Chi Jingyan could accept a temporary mark from Jiang Mengyu. Chi Jingyan had coldly rejected his proposal at the time, and Professor Chen had been very disappointed. He hadn’t expected things to turn around so quickly.
“Her pheromones have integrated very well into your body. Not only have they not had any negative effects on your various physical indicators, but they have also made your pheromones more stable.”
As expected of 100% compatibility.
Professor Chen’s eyes were full of amazement.
Hearing this, Chi Jingyan finally relaxed a little.
Professor Chen continued, “As for her suddenly marking you, perhaps your pheromones also had an effect on her.”
“This is a very common situation between Alphas and Omegas. The pheromone leakage caused by an Alpha during their susceptible period has a high probability of triggering an Omega’s heat.”
What’s more, the compatibility between these two was so high. It was only normal for them to be affected.
Chi Jingyan’s face was tense. “Her behavior didn’t look like she was affected.”
“Perhaps she’s just exceptionally good at enduring it?” Professor Chen didn’t believe that Jiang Mengyu hadn’t been affected.
The effect of pheromones was mutual. If Chi Jingyan could be enticed to the point of wanting to mark Jiang Mengyu several times, how could Jiang Mengyu have felt nothing?
Chi Jingyan fell silent.
Earlier that morning, after discovering she had been marked, she had been blinded by anger. Before she had a chance to look at last night’s surveillance footage, she had flown into a rage at Jiang Mengyu and kicked her out.
While waiting for Secretary Zhao and Professor Chen to arrive, Chi Jingyan had managed to suppress her anger and watch the surveillance playback.
It was indeed her who had made the first move.
If Jiang Mengyu hadn’t marked her at the last moment, she might have marked Jiang Mengyu.
Perhaps there was some truth to what Professor Chen said, but Chi Jingyan knew that Jiang Mengyu had definitely been much more clear-headed than her at the time.
Couldn’t she have pushed me away?
Professor Chen studied Chi Jingyan’s face. Seeing that she still looked gloomy, he couldn’t help but ask tentatively, “Young Miss, if you’re not at ease, why don’t you hand her over to me?”
Chi Jingyan glanced at him but didn’t speak.
Hearing this, Secretary Zhao couldn’t help but recall the scene he had just witnessed. There was a deep bullet hole in the kitchen wall.
Is the Young Miss planning to get rid of Jiang Mengyu for good?
Just as he was thinking this, he suddenly heard Chi Jingyan say coldly, “That would be letting her off too easily.”
Chi Jingyan’s face was cold and gloomy. “Let’s talk about it after my susceptible period is over.”
Jiang Mengyu had already temporarily marked her. Even if Chi Jingyan was unwilling, she couldn’t change this fact. Instead of handing Jiang Mengyu over to Professor Chen, it would be better to keep her by her side and just treat her as a tool to get through her susceptible period.
Secretary Zhao was a little surprised. He had thought that with the Young Miss’s current level of anger, she would have just washed her hands of Jiang Mengyu.
It seemed that from the very beginning, the Young Miss had a strange tolerance for Jiang Mengyu. She had tolerated all of Jiang Mengyu’s audacious behavior.
Secretary Zhao didn’t dare to think too deeply. After confirming that there was nothing wrong with Chi Jingyan’s body, he left with Professor Chen.
Before he left, Professor Chen gave Jiang Mengyu a few regretful glances.
Jiang Mengyu wasn’t too surprised by this. What she was a little concerned about was that Secretary Zhao’s eyes also seemed to carry a deep meaning when he looked at her.
“You…” Secretary Zhao seemed to want to say something, but he had only said one word when Chi Jingyan’s voice came from inside the door.
“Aren’t you going to get in here.”
Her tone was full of impatience.
It was self-evident who she was talking to.
Secretary Zhao sighed. “You should go in first.”
He didn’t seem to have the standing to say anything. Although the Young Miss was young, she was very calculating. He was just an employee and shouldn’t interfere too much in his boss’s affairs.
Jiang Mengyu stood up. When she returned to the apartment, Chi Jingyan was still sitting on the sofa in the living room, looking at her with an unfriendly expression.
“A-Yan,” Jiang Mengyu walked toward her. “How is your body?”
“Heh,” Chi Jingyan sneered. Instead of answering, she retorted, “Didn’t I tell you to get out? Who told you to stay at the door?”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t answer immediately. She first knelt down in front of Chi Jingyan, then looked up at her and said softly, “I have nowhere else to go.”
After coming here with Chi Jingyan, Jiang Mengyu had given up that small rental house.
Chi Jingyan looked at the person at her feet. Jiang Mengyu was acting very obedient now. She had used this appearance to deceive her and make her let down her guard.
“Last night, did you use your pheromones to control me?” Chi Jingyan stared at her for a long while before asking out of the blue.
Jiang Mengyu’s gaze was unwavering. “No.”
Chi Jingyan fell silent again. Her gaze on Jiang Mengyu’s face was strange and inscrutable, as if she were sizing her up, or perhaps probing.
After a long time, Jiang Mengyu finally heard Chi Jingyan say in a deep voice, “You’d better not have.”
Jiang Mengyu’s lips were slightly pursed. She stared at Chi Jingyan without blinking.
“A-Yan, are you still going to kick me out?”
I thought this story was going to be some cute romance 🤦. It’s so toxic.
