“Yeah, unfortunately, we didn’t find anything. Plus, we were scared of ghosts, so we left early,” Izumi Shirayuki said, feigning a frightened look.
In truth, last night all three had wanted to follow Inoue Keiko, which was why they’d reached a consensus and left so quickly.
“And when you left, did you see anyone strange?” Inoue Keiko asked.
“Speaking of strange people, I saw a yankee gang when I was leaving,” Mizuhashi Yuzuki answered.
“A yankee gang? Mizuhashi-san, are you alright?” Izumi Shirayuki asked with concern.
“Don’t worry, that yankee gang was all drunk. They didn’t pay any attention to me,” Mizuhashi Yuzuki said without a trace of concern.
As a dignified Reincarnator, why would she worry about a mere yankee gang?
Looking at the three people present, Inoue Keiko still had some lingering doubts in her heart she wanted to ask about. But after thinking it over, she ultimately didn’t dare. Perhaps some things were better left unknown.
“What do you all think about the ghost incidents on campus?” Izumi Shirayuki asked the group.
Everyone present knew the matter was already resolved—it was just Inoue Keiko training her abilities late at night. However, in Shirayuki’s view, the others shouldn’t know the matter was settled yet. She couldn’t act as if the case was closed and just drop the subject; that would seem suspicious.
Mizuhashi Yuzuki’s thoughts aligned with Shirayuki’s.
Tsukiyomi Ruri’s thoughts aligned with Yuzuki’s.
“Then should we come back tonight to investigate again?” Mizuhashi Yuzuki probed. “And this time with Keiko-san here, there’s safety in numbers, right?”
“Sure, I have no objections,” Tsukiyomi Ruri was the first to voice her agreement.
She also wanted to observe Inoue Keiko more; being able to act alongside her was naturally a good thing.
Hearing this, Izumi Shirayuki said, “Of course, I have no problem either. What do you think, Inoue-san?”
Inoue Keiko immediately felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.
She knew the ghost incidents were actually her own doing. Facing a matter related to her like this, she couldn’t help but feel nervous.
But under the gaze of three pairs of eyes, Inoue Keiko had no reason to refuse and could only agree.
Gradually, night fell.
The April nights were still somewhat chilly, and the streets were rather quiet.
Tsukiyomi Ruri, wearing her school uniform, arrived outside the school. This time, when she arrived, only Izumi Shirayuki was waiting outside. Mizuhashi Yuzuki and Inoue Keiko hadn’t arrived yet.
“Tsukiyomi-san.” Spotting Tsukiyomi Ruri, Izumi Shirayuki waved her over and said with concern, “Tonight is even colder than the past few nights. What if you catch a cold coming out in just your uniform?”
Not far away was still Shirayuki’s truck. She opened the door and took out a white knitted cardigan, draping it over Tsukiyomi Ruri’s shoulders.
Ruri sniffed slightly. It still seemed to carry Shirayuki’s scent. Had Shirayuki been wearing it earlier?
“Thank you, Izumi-senpai.” Tsukiyomi Ruri didn’t refuse, even though she wasn’t afraid of the cold.
“You’re welcome.” Izumi Shirayuki couldn’t resist patting Tsukiyomi Ruri’s head.
Ruri wasn’t used to having her head touched and instinctively dodged.
Shirayuki didn’t mind being dodged and simply smiled at Ruri.
Glancing at the truck beside them, Ruri asked, “Izumi-senpai, are you an Ojou-sama? Is the person driving your family’s driver?”
“I wouldn’t say Ojou-sama. We just have a bit of money. But Tsukiyomi-san, you give me more of a feeling of being an Ojou-sama, actually,” Shirayuki said with a smile.
A question mark popped up over Tsukiyomi Ruri’s head. How bad would someone’s vision have to be to think she seemed like an Ojou-sama?
“I forgot to bring drinks out. I remember there’s a vending machine over there. I’ll go buy some drinks. Want to come, Tsukiyomi-san?” Shirayuki asked her.
Ruri nodded casually.
As they were leisurely drinking their beverages after buying them, Mizuhashi Yuzuki and Inoue Keiko arrived one after the other.
“Sorry, my place is quite far, and there was traffic on the way,” Inoue Keiko, the last to arrive, apologized to everyone.
“It’s fine. Since everyone’s here, let’s head into the school.” Izumi Shirayuki went to the back of her truck, opened it, and took out the chairs from inside.
But with the school matter already resolved, surely nothing would happen tonight. So how should they handle tonight?
Shirayuki had been pondering this question. Perhaps they would just stake out inside for a while longer. When nothing showed up, she’d declare it too late and send everyone home. If this scenario repeated a few more times, they could put a period on this club activity.
Thinking this, Shirayuki still felt a bit regretful. After all, she hadn’t expected this matter to involve Reincarnators from the start.
The four girls quickly scaled the school wall and adeptly headed for yesterday’s stakeout spot.
As they walked, Mizuhashi Yuzuki asked quizzically, “Do you all hear music?”
Hearing this, the others tilted their heads to listen. Indeed, faint music drifted through the night.
After exchanging glances, the group immediately headed toward the source of the music. The closer they got, the clearer the music became. It was perfect for a supernatural horror movie, carrying a chilling rhythm.
“That classroom has its lights on. Th-that is…” Izumi Shirayuki pointed ahead, looking utterly astonished.
The first-floor classroom over there had its curtains drawn, but with the lights shining from within, the shadows of chairs could be seen. These chairs were clearly floating in mid-air.
This sight even stunned Tsukiyomi Ruri. She cast a surreptitious glance at Inoue Keiko.
Wasn’t Keiko right here beside them? They had already identified the person causing the school’s strange events. Why were strange things still happening at school?
Izumi Shirayuki and Mizuhashi Yuzuki also subtly glanced at Inoue Keiko, inwardly shocked.
As for Inoue Keiko, she was equally dumbfounded.
‘The paranormal incidents at school… weren’t they just accidentally caused by me training my abilities? But what’s going on in that classroom ahead?’
Inoue Keiko felt a chill of terror.
Could it be… there really was a ghost?
“Should we go take a look?” Mizuhashi Yuzuki asked with a dry laugh.
Izumi Shirayuki hesitated, unsure how to choose.
“Yes, of course, we should go look,” Tsukiyomi Ruri decided decisively.
Because if she didn’t get to the bottom of this, she was certain that tomorrow Shirayuki would grab her hand, express her boundless curiosity, and then lead the Urban Legend Club members back to the school on yet another night. Wouldn’t that just be troublesome? It was better to clarify things sooner.
Seeing Ruri’s resolute manner, Izumi Shirayuki also made a decision in her heart.
