Chapter 69: The Leaf Demon Appears Part 2

Wang Ya clearly saw green spiritual light surging rapidly along these roots. The spiritual light was beautiful but contained extremely powerful energy. As it moved, Wang Ya even distinctly felt the entire root system providing it with energy, as if it were the master of these roots, an extension of its limbs, its very brain. She knew the description wasn’t perfectly accurate, but she couldn’t find better words. She simply felt that if that cluster of spiritual light willed it, it could transform this tidal ocean of roots into its body.

Wang Ya knew that cluster of spiritual light was extremely far away, but its speed was like the transmission of thoughts from brain to limbs—almost the instant she sensed it, it appeared before her.

Wang Ya clearly saw the spiritual lights converge into a beautiful woman appearing before her.

Wang Ya opened her eyes and saw a woman glowing with green fluorescence standing amidst the roots in front of her, completely nude. She was like a living person yet could phase through the roots as she hovered there. At this moment, the green-shadow woman gazed at her with eyes like still water. She gave Wang Ya an instinctive sense of closeness and trust, mingled with the estrangement of long separation. Toward her, Wang Ya felt dependence and an indescribable heartache. She looked at the woman, and the woman looked back at her. The two “people” stared at each other for a long while before the green-shadow woman’s voice drifted into Wang Ya’s ears: “Were you the one calling me just now?” The voice was a transmission of intent, without substantial sound, yet Wang Ya found it pleasant, soft, and tinged with faint, incredulous joy.

Wang Ya uttered an “Mm” and said, “I was looking for you.” Realizing there were two grown men nearby, she quickly turned her head and saw Wang Cheng’an staring dumbfounded at Ye Zi, his mouth agape wide enough to fit an egg! Old Tang wasn’t much better, his eyes bulging round. Wang Ya frowned and shouted, “Dad, didn’t Grandma tell you not to look at things you shouldn’t?” Only after Wang Cheng’an flushed red and turned away, and Old Tang shifted his gaze to her instead of Ye Zi, did she say to Ye Zi, “Ye Zi, could you put some clothes on first?”

Ye Zi blankly looked down at herself, then at Wang Ya’s attire, and opened her mouth hesitantly, her eyes momentarily dazed, her expression somewhat bewildered and at a loss.

Seeing Ye Zi’s dazed state, Wang Ya wondered if she even had clothes and asked, “Do you want me to lend you a set?”

Ye Zi silently gazed at Wang Ya for two seconds, then nodded lightly.

Wang Ya turned her body sideways to reveal the backpack on her back and said, “My clothes are in the bag. Help yourself.”

Zhang Qingshui stared in astonishment at Wang Ya talking to herself toward the roots, then glanced at Huang Qi’s speechless expression, and asked softly, “Has the Leaf Demon appeared?”

Huang Qi softly uttered an “Mm.” She was utterly speechless toward this adorably clueless Leaf Demon. Although the Yellow Springs Other Shore Flower Leaf Demon had cultivated into a demon, she was actually a Spirit Body without a solid form. She had probably coalesced into a human shape to seem close to Wang Ya, the human. From the Leaf Demon’s expression, Huang Qi could tell she didn’t quite understand human clothing. Huang Qi was also baffled by Wang Ya’s actions: telling a shapeless Spirit Body to wear clothes? And while they dangled mid-air clinging to Yellow Springs Other Shore Flower roots, suspended between sky and earth with pursuers at their backs?

Ye Zi looked Wang Ya over carefully, as if trying to see through her, then vanished from in front of Wang Ya.

Wang Ya keenly sensed Ye Zi slipping into the backpack behind her. She could feel Ye Zi inside it but detected no movement. She waited a full three minutes without any sign and impatiently urged, “Ye Zi, are you done yet?”

The nude Ye Zi emerged from the backpack and floated before Wang Ya again. Her soft voice drifted into Wang Ya’s ears: “Wait a moment!”

Wang Ya asked speechlessly, “It’s just putting on clothes—does it have to be this troublesome? You were in my backpack so long and didn’t even manage to put on underwear.”

Ye Zi tossed back, “I didn’t bring my body out.” Then she merged into the roots and vanished without a trace.

Wang Ya called out, “What do you mean you didn’t bring your body? Isn’t this ridiculously huge Yellow Springs Other Shore Flower your body? Ye Zi, get back here!” But there was no sign of the Leaf Demon, leaving Wang Ya grinding her teeth in frustration. She really wanted to slap herself—better to have let Ye Zi stay naked! What was the point of clothes for a Spirit Body? She could’ve just given her a paper cutout, drawn some talisman patterns on it, and called it clothing!

Suddenly, she heard a rumbling from the nearby mountain wall, like thunder rolling past, accompanied by tremors that shook the rock face and sent countless fragments tumbling down!
