Feng Miwan finally realized what was going on. She obediently reported her room number.
Feng Miwan: “1103.”
After sending it, she set her phone down.
About three minutes later, there was a soft “knock knock knock” at the door.
Feng Miwan thought it was the delivery arriving, so she called out toward the door:
“Just leave it at the door! Thanks!”
She was preparing to wait for the delivery person to leave before opening the door to retrieve it when her phone dinged again.
Xiong Yibai: “The delivery person says there’s a gift that needs to be handed to you personally. Open the door.”
A gift?
And it had to be handed over in person?
Feng Miwan grew suspicious. Why was this delivery process so strange?
She walked to the door and peered through the peephole.
The peephole’s view was limited, but it was enough for her to clearly see the person standing outside—
It wasn’t a uniformed delivery worker, but a tall, slender figure dressed in simple casual clothes, with that familiar pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on her nose.
It was Xiong Yibai?!
Feng Miwan’s eyes widened in disbelief at what she saw.
She yanked the door open, her voice rising an octave:
“Yibai?! How are you here?! Weren’t you supposed to be in Tanzhou?!”
Standing at the door was Xiong Yibai, a smile playing on her lips.
She shook the bag in her hand, from which an enticing aroma of food wafted:
“Yeah, I came to deliver your takeout.”
After her initial surprise, Feng Miwan quickly stepped aside to let her in: “Come in, come in!”
Xiong Yibai walked into the room with the bag, casually closing the door behind her.
Feng Miwan followed, suddenly remembering something, and asked curiously:
“Don’t you have to work? How did you suddenly come to Modu?”
Xiong Yibai set the bag on the small tea table, opening the packaging as she replied:
“The hospital sent me to Modu Central Hospital for training. Ten days.”
“Training?”
Feng Miwan’s eyes lit up instantly, and she excitedly leaned in closer.
“That’s great! So you’ll be in Modu for the next few days? Does that mean you can come watch my race?!”
Her face was full of eager anticipation.
“Yeah, sure.”
Xiong Yibai nodded and opened a double-layered insulated food container, revealing several neatly arranged dishes inside.
The contents of the container were quite special—not your average takeout.
The top layer held Japanese cold soba noodles, accompanied by dashi broth for dipping and a small dab of wasabi.
Beside it were a few pieces of grilled salmon, with slightly crispy skin and tender pink flesh.
The bottom layer was a vegetable salad mixed with avocado and quinoa, plus a small portion of what looked like a special electrolyte-rich jelly.
Overall, the colors were visually appealing, light yet nutritionally balanced—clearly carefully selected and paired.
“Eat up,”
Xiong Yibai said as she handed chopsticks to Feng Miwan,
“it should help ease your tension a bit.”
Feng Miwan looked at this thoughtfully prepared “takeout,” her heart warming. She took the chopsticks:
“Thanks, Yibai! I was just getting hungry—this looks delicious!”
The two began eating quietly.
The dry silence felt a bit awkward, so Feng Miwan picked up the remote and turned on the TV, tuning it to the news channel to fill the room with background noise.
At first, the news covered general social affairs, and the two occasionally commented while eating.
However, not long after, the screen switched to a preview report on this leg of the China Super Car Championship at the Modu Circuit.
The camera panned over the hot contenders, and when it came to Feng Miwan, the host’s tone carried a hint of deliberate skepticism:
“…The much-watched ‘Rain Battle Goddess’ Feng Miwan failed to finish last time in Yong City due to a mistake. Can she withstand the pressure at this Modu Circuit event and shine again, or—as some commentators suggest—will her instability remain the shortcoming holding her back from greater stages? We’ll have to wait and see…”
Feng Miwan’s chewing slowed, her eyes dimming for a moment, but she quickly masked it and continued eating her salmon as if nothing had happened.
However, this subtle shift in her mood didn’t escape Xiong Yibai’s notice.
Just as Feng Miwan was about to speak up and change the subject, Xiong Yibai suddenly grabbed the remote and “clicked” it off, shutting the TV down completely.
The room fell quiet again.
Feng Miwan looked at her in surprise.
Xiong Yibai set the remote down and met Feng Miwan’s gaze:
“What the news says? Just let it go in one ear and out the other.”
“In my field, only a doctor can declare someone dead. The news? It has no right to do that.”
“Likewise, those voices in the studio, judging you based on past data and subjective guesses, have no right to define your abilities or your future.”
“Your track is right under your feet—not in their mouths.”
Xiong Yibai’s words swept away the gloom clouding Feng Miwan’s heart like a clear breeze.
Looking into Xiong Yibai’s eyes full of trust, the anxiety and unease stirred by outside doubts gradually faded.
She nodded vigorously, her face regaining its glow: “Yeah! Got it!”
With her mood brightened, Feng Miwan thought of something practical:
“Yibai, I’ll give you a VIP grandstand ticket later! The seat is amazing—right opposite the start/finish straight, perfect view! You can refund the one you bought before!”
Xiong Yibai didn’t refuse and nodded: “Okay. Thanks.”
“Hey, no need for thanks between us!”
Feng Miwan waved it off, then suddenly leaned closer to Xiong Yibai with a sly smile, as if remembering something.
“By the way, Miss Delivery Person, didn’t your message say… there’s a gift to hand over personally? Where is it?”
The room’s lighting was soft, and Feng Miwan was a bit closer than normal social distance, her eyes sparkling as she awaited the answer.
Xiong Yibai met her gaze without flinching or answering right away.
She looked at Feng Miwan’s expectant, slightly playful expression, her lips twitching slightly before she softly countered:
“Isn’t this delivery itself the gift?”
Feng Miwan froze for a second, then got it.
Right—Xiong Yibai’s very presence here was the most special, invaluable “gift” imaginable.
Realizing this, Feng Miwan’s cheeks flushed. She touched her nose awkwardly, her gaze drifting before she mumbled softly:
“Yeah… of course it counts. This gift is the best and most timely one.”
Xiong Yibai, seeing that she understood, said no more.
She stood up: “Get some early rest. A good spirit is most important.”
“Yeah! I know!” Feng Miwan nodded emphatically. “Then I’ll see you at my race the day after tomorrow!”
“Okay.” Xiong Yibai nodded, picking up her bag. “I’ll head out first.”
“I’ll walk you to the elevator!” Feng Miwan jumped up and followed.
After the elevator doors closed, Feng Miwan returned to her room.
The night passed without incident.
